First off, how do you connect to the internet? do you have a router? a router is like an external device where you connect your regular telephone line to or cable (depends whether you contracted your internet service from your telephone company or your cable tv company) and from that device you connect another cable to your PC. Do you have something like that? |

Alright, that's a good start, so we know you have a router. Now you have to find out if your router is wi-fi capable. This means that you can have wireless internet. If you have a laptop and you're able to connect wirelessly we're good to go.

It's not necessary, I just wanted to know because if you have connected to internet wirelessly using a laptop that means that your router is wi-fi capable. I guess you'll have to look for the manual for the router or contact your internet provider to see if it's wi-fi capable.

Holy crap dude, it isn't that hard. Have you not ever used a computer? Sheesh.
Download the firmware update (Version 2.41) from here. When you click that you will be prompted to save the file, save it to your desktop. After that, insert a USB flash drive into the USB port on your computer, open the flash drive in My Computer, and create a folder named PS3. Then copy the update file that you just downloaded to the PS3 folder. After that, remove the USB drive from your computer and insert the USB drive into the USB port on your PS3 and go to Setting>Software update>and from storage device. If you can't do it after those instructions then you need to never touch another piece of technology again. Last edited by Aaron; 07-13-2008 at 11:39 PM. |

Pay no mind to that guy. The card the rep mention is probably for the PC. Ok let's try this. Turn on your ps3 and go to "settings"scroll all the way down to "network settings" there you should see an option that says "internet connection" press the "x" button on your controller and select "enable" hit the "o" button on your controller to go back and the go to "Internet Connection Settings" and see if it gives you the option to setup a wireless connection. if it does select it and select automatic, then the ps3 should start to search and see if there's a wireless connection available. Do that and tell me what you see

Thanks for the help I'd like to get the WIFI thing going and do it that way. It seems to be the easiest way. Dell says I need a wireless card? Is that all thats needed?

And it's easier to update using the method I told you unless you already have a network, but you don't. |

Please be respectful of other people. I already told J.H what you told him to do, but he thinks setting up a wifi connection is more convenient so I'm trying to help him with that (as opposed to insult him).

You told him what to do but what you told him is a much more complicated process since he doesn't have an existing wireless network.
