Yeah, I love this show. I watch 3 shows a week. Heroes, Smallville, and Supernatural. I wish Smallville was on BD as well. All in good time I imagine

I think the point here is that the new Universal lists looks more like a launch list, than ramping up for the future.

I want far more from their 2006 list than I do from their 2007. That shouldn't be. Part of the game is to drive us green with envy, isn't it?

"Oh man, I don't know if I can hold off buying an HD DVD player" sort of thing.

I can certainly wait with this list.

From this list, I'd want:

April - The Game

May - The Frighteners (hopefully with the three hour making-of)

June - Daylight & Meet Joe Black

July - The Bourne Identity, Hot Fuzz & Shaun of the Dead

August - Heroes: Season One

Of course, it'd have to be in BD. Otherwise, no sale. Not even going to think about buying a HD-DVD player.

I hope that when, not if, Universal becomes format neutral, the execs would rethink their decision to encode using VC-1 exclusively. Ramping up releases means tighter deadlines and you can't do that with code-tweaking and command line execution VC-1 style.

honestly people, all of you guys just want something that you dont have, i dare say that if Universal does one day ( it will) release on Blu-ray some of the titles you guyz you want to buy right now you wouldnt wants it then. It just human nature that you want something that you cant have but once you can have it you just dont wants it.

Good theory - I would buy Lebowski and Children of Men without hesitation on BD... as well as a few others there....

Hope is kindled

Is there a single title on that list than can compete against CR or POTC?
A list of mostly mediocre shit is not going to shift the balance as it stands today.Knowing good old Sony they will probably roll out some A+ titles in response.

If that is all HD-DVD has to offer, Blu Ray has nothing to worry about

My honest opinion of this list, there is not one movie I cannot live without. Definitely nothing that would make me rush out and buy even the cheapest hd-dvd player.

I totally agree. I have an HD-DVD player and I still have absolutely no desire to go out and buy a single one of those titles.

There are some very good things on there and a couple of TV seasons that will tempt many. With the movies however, since the ones I want I already have on DVD there isn't an imperative to upgrade. I'm more interested in new and very recent films for HD purchases. When the dynamic changes in a few years and catalog material is in the 19.99 range for new then I'll start upgrading certain films.

That basically says it all. Remember, HD-DVD supporters always claimed that they were getting quality. There are no real memorable or even classic movies in the bunch. I doubt many people are clamoring to get The Jerk in HD, no matter how many of us might have enjoyed it. These titles just appear "dated".

They could be preparing theses titles as launch titles for Blu-ray.
Universal support for both formats.

The Bourne movies are a must. The wife will want Darkman. There are maybe 10 on the list I like but that doesn't mean I'm going to buy them. The ones I'd like are not available and there are some from the initial launch like Pitch Black and U571.Have them already so no urgency in picking them up.

Nope, this from AVS-

What may change, however, is that if Blu-ray sales continue to dominate 2 to 1 or more, Universal may decide that it's wise to start supporting both formats like Warner and Paramount, at which point this format war is basically over. That doesn't mean HD-DVD is bad or will go away, but when every single studio in town supports one of the formats and the other format only has a few studios behind it, the choice for most consumers interested in HD on disc starts to become a no-brainer. You guys are basing your opinions on published news stories and PR spin. But there's always more debate and discussion going on behind the scenes in the industry than you may be aware, and we've been involved in the industry long enough to be plugged into some of this at The Bits. A particular studio's stance on anything is never as cut and dried as it may seem. This is a business, and they make their decisions based on profit. By being one of the few studios to exclusively support HD-DVD sales, they have a larger share of that market for now. But if the scales tip in the other direction too much longer, they'll have to react eventually. Some of you may be too new to all this to recall, but longtimers will remember that Universal was one of the last studios in Hollywood to jump on the DVD bandwagon way back when. They dragged their feet forever on DVD, and they were one of the biggest supporters of Circuit City's Divx pay-per-view disc scheme. Just a little perspective some here seem to be lacking.
As of now I am glad to have both formats and remember they still have titles to announce for Oct.-Dec.

This doesn't mean that the title they announced won't be out on blu-ray. He's sayin they won't drop HD-DVD. If BD keeps up the pace, they'll go neutral. At least that's what I make of it.

That means they'll no longer have tier pricing for combo discs and new releases will be competitively priced with other titles in the market. This is good news for us, since that rationalizes the price points, which I know has been a subject of debate on the Forum.

So you see, the voices of majority do have some power here .
