Shyamalan's film is going to be called simply "The Last Airbender" this was resolved at least a year ago. I think it should be interesting.

As for this AVATAR it seems if Cameron really wanted it to be great, he would call it AVATAR 2 right off the bat. If I were a studio head, I definitely would not have greenlit a $300 mil budget. That's just insane. Can we say Waterworld?

There's no way this movie can live up to it's hype at this point.

Exactly.

"In excess" of $200 million could still be $299.4 million. *LOL*

Pretty much. lol. I think it's safe to say that this is possibly the most expensive film ever made. Definitely has to be up there, that's for sure.

I will look forward to it when I know more about what the film is about and see some footage, for now it's on the far end of my radar.

I admit I had zero interest in this movie, because I thought it was related to the Avatar cartoon.

Now I'm pretty interested, but I wouldn't be surprised if the movie flops. Sci-fi in December seems a bit weird, and I hope it's not relying on a gimmick ("look how different this movie looks") to draw people in.

Yeah they'll probably release some awesome trailers and posters then at the last minute decide to delay the release until May or June - like Star Trek...

It was going to be released this summer. June I think. But it got pushed back so they could finish the effects and to give time for more digital screens to be installed. They won't be delaying it any further.

It could have been the case, we are talking about a Spielberg, Cameron movie so the budget could have been something like 295 Millions of salary for the two guys and 5 million for the making

Time magazine corrected their original article. The budget for Avatar is $200 million and not $300 million but it will still be the most expensive movie ever made. Given that there aren't any big names in the movie unless you consider Sigourney Weaver to be an "A" actor, I would expect that the cost will be evident up on the screen.
