DC isn't legally allowed to title a film "Captain Marvel." That is the primary reason why they have largely conceded on the name. Disney has their own plans for an eventual Captain Marvel movie with their female hero of the same name.

As I said, I know that. They can call the movie whatever they want for all I care: I was just venting that they have to call the character "Shazem" too.

Nope they are not similar at all IMO.

Captain Marvel is more similar to Big and Freaky Friday than to any Marvel character.

Maybe it is petty as balls but the stupid name change has completely turned me off the New 52 Captain Marvel. Well that, and the terrible redesign.

I always thought the character was best used in alt-world stories like that incredible fight with Superman in Kingdom Come. Although I'd also argue it unfilmable since that entire story is DEFINED by Alex Ross' artwork and it just wouldn't be the same without it.

But I do hope that the fight with Black Adam ends with Captain Marvel holding him up in the air, uttering the magic words and taking him out with his own magic lightning - something they paid homage too in that AWESOME short animated fight scene by DC with Black Adam.

I also loved Flashpoint, where the alternative version was Captain Thunder. Since ensemble casts are the in thing right now, swapping out Billy Batson for six teen actors would be a win win for tjem, plus they could also give Marvel an awesome transforming tiger like Thunder had.

I don't believe they will use the idea of six kids sharing the power. That was a hokey re-invention and an obvious ploy to introduce some diversity into the Captain Marvel concept. It has not been that well received and even Hollywood realizes it's an overbaked idea. I think the visual re-design is likely used in the film.

The tone of this film will be very important. I think they should emulate Donner's Superman with its more timeless feel.

shazam wasn't originally DC's and it was accused of being a Superman rip-off (came out a few months to a year after the 1st superman comic) and that happened because Cpt Marvel comics were more popular than anything DC or Marvel had back in the day and after a decade of lawsuits and eventual declining sales of all comics the company that published Captain Marvel comics closed up shop and DC eventually bought the character

marvels thor i believe is more in tune with the actual stories of thor; and the character appeared over a decade after Cpt. Marvel was out of publication (if Marvel wanted to make a clone of Cpt. Marvel they could have bought the character back then)
but there are a lot of similarities as did most characters across publishers back then
