It's funny actually because maximum market penetration might be achieved with the release. I remember everyone rushing out to buy a CD player in the 80s when they released "The Beatles" on CD.

Would the 3D versions of the Star Wars films be tied to a blu ray release? Not sure the status of the project to bring all 6 films to 3D. I'm sure they will be theatrically released. Lucas commented on the project in a Time magazine interview a year or two ago, but there hasn't been much news since. Anyway. I'm sure they are waiting to try and tie it to something... Anniversary might be another possibility?

What are the chances of releasing the Original unaltered Trilogy the next time around? At least on Blu, it would be less likely to be non anamorphic.

Thumbs up Obviously...

As long as GL is making making money from the DVDs, he has no reason to go to Blu-ray, Blu-ray would cut into his DVD revenue, which is still making him money. Once the curve starts to drop (ie. everyone has them on DVD or is waiting for Blue-ray) then he would move it to blu-ray format, to bring the revenue curve back up. then in 10-15 years when that drops, everyone will start hearing about Star Wars 7/8/9, likely directed by someone else, but co directed and produced by GL as hes to old. Or done in CGI which by that point cant be told apart from real life footage, and will contain CGI versions of Mark Hamill, Harry ford etc, who if still alove will still do the voices.

I called Best Buy today to ask the tech questions about hooking my LD player up to a HDTV, and during the coarse of the conversation it came up why I still have a LD player, the reason being to own Star Wars in all it's versions. Well I said something about waiting for George Lucas taking his time to release Star Wars, and he told me I was wrong it already was and they had it in their store. I double checked and he swore Star Wars was already on Blu Ray. Of coarse he was wrong but he stood by his claim.

USA Star Wars on Blu-Ray

There is a tentative year slated to coincide with the pilot airing of the TV series in the middle of 2011, approximately June-August.

Unhappy

Lucas made the excuse of not putting them out on regular DVD because he was too busy making the new movies. I have read where he is afraid of pirating of his work, especially as the quality of the technology has increased, allowing for pirating of a copy close to what was seen in theaters in quality. The man is uber rich so cashing in on Blu-ray has no influence on his decision to allow Blu-ray release. For whatever reason he appears to not be happy with Blu-ray and I would not be surprised if its because its been hacked and you can make illegal copies easily.

Back in 1983 Lucas created THX because he was not happy with the way many theaters were displaying his films. He said that they had put all this effort in the visual aspects in his films as well as the audio and people were not seeing and hearing his movies as he wanted them to be enjoyed. I will say this, that THX enhancements to the 6 Star Wars films has them looking almost HD in PQ. They are among the best looking SD DVD movies I have seen, along with the first 2 Indiana Jones and the last SD offerings of James Bond (The Ultimate James Bond collection, which was done by the same company that some of the HDNET Movies are done by).

That being said, I have DVRed IV and V in HD that have were shown this past year on Spike TV. The Spike TV HD conversions looked great. I am afraid that those will be the only offerings in HD we will see from Lucas unless he passes away and someone else gets in charge of Lucas Ltd. who isn't paranoid about pirating. I am hoping in the meantime that either Encore, who has shown all the James Bond movies in HD, even before they were available on Blu-ray, or HDNET, who shows movies in HD that aren't available on Blu-ray on a daily basis, show all 6 in commercial-free HD.

Default Stars Wars 3D

Might as well start this inevitable thread (unless it already has then delete please)

Will it happen?

George has been talking about it for years.

Is it likely that when Star Wars does get released on Blu, will it be in 3D?

Why is this not on the front page?
Does a mod have to approve new threads?

If he does have plans for a 3D release it will probably be a couple of years after the regular releases whenever that is.

It's it the wishlist section because it doesn't exist.

If it does happen, there will be a 3D theatrical release first.

When I first posted in wish list, it never showed up, I thought I did something wrong or Wish list threads do not go to the front page. I still only see one.

OOPS, my bad. I am sure a mod will merge and delete

I bet when Star Wars comes out on 3D Blu-ray Lucas will have revised it yet again.

I'm calling it now- Greedo will now shoot TWICE before Han shoots back.

Only took 5 post for someone to take a shot at Lucas

I am quite sure Star Wars 3D will be coming soon to a theater near us. Of course while everyone praises James Cameron with his 3D smurfs if space everyone will find way to complaint that Lucas is destroying their childhood once again. It's a good think Lucas is around, poor people would have no one to complaint about
