I don't think it's delayed, just limited production. You know there are a surprising amount of people that want this on Blu-ray. I was lucky to get 1 of 4 copies at my local BestBuy this morning. It was the only store in the city that had it available.

Not enough copies to satisfy the demand. We all know how this goes... (PS3 launch...) etc.

My source only got two, one for me and one for him last week. The HD DVD version arrived earlier and was abundant. Heh.

Well this is my first post but I am a happy owner of the PS3 and tried today april 24 to get ahold of Planet Earth on blue ray and was pleased to get my hands on what was told to me to be the last of 2 copies that were available at Walmart West here in Edmonton.

I checked Futureshop/Bestbuy ABSOUND/HMV/LONDON DRUGS and a few mom and pop shops and they were baffled for why the delay.

HMV staff priced the DVD copys as if they were blue ray. Good thing I caught that since they had to call all their pre-order clients that ordered at this location..

Anyway I hope to post more constructive experience soon.

I read that the high definition disc versions will be missing 3-4 hours of extras that the DVD version will have. Is this true??? What's the point of blu-ray having all that disc space when they don't even use it? That's so not cool.

You can ask that question to Warner and their HD DVD mastering.

More FUD i have to keeel.

The HIGH DEFINITION disc versions (BOTH HD DVD and Blu-ray disc) include the whole 11 Planet Earth programs complete.

The HD DVD and Blu-ray disc editions both consist of 4 discs. The BD has 4 x 25 GB = 100GB (which could have easily fit in two BD50s btw) while the HD DVD version has the same content in 4 x 30GB? HD DVDs with the 100GB of data.. So what's the point of having what space? HAD Warner used four 50GB discs they could have had (and used) the space, for example, for a lossless PCM track and supplements, but they did their normal HD DVD ports and that's all they fit on 4 discs.

What they don't include, available on the PAL R2 DVD version at least which has an extra disc (I don't have/haven't seen the NTSC R1 DVD version) are "the Planet Earth Diaries" which are short, about 10 minute, segments that are making of's of the episodes, and one more supplement: Planet Earth – The Future. The PAL box set is five DVD-9s. These are all of course PAL Standard Definition discs.

When I checked the filmed program from the High Def disc against the same episde on the DVD the content was exactly the same.

BD again held back due to an inferior product and WB taking the easy way out...

Yes.. BD is inferior, yet both neglected to mention that the hd dvd version would be wasting 20gb more...

I just think the blu-ray version should, at the very least, have everything the DVD does. I'm still going to buy this though. I'm addicted to buying blu-ray. I don't have as many as some people here, but I 50+.

BD is not the problem - HD DVD & WB are the problems...

Before I came over to the "dark side", I ordered PE on HD-DVD. Got it in today. However, it was free.

Don't ask.

So, I think I will order PE on BD in the next few days as well. Keep both copies unopened and see who wins. The winner will be opened, the looser will be sold.

Then I can finally buy an HD player.
