I started my dvd collection late in life but did not get way to many. I upgraded less then half of my collection. Most DVDs I have upgraded but I looked at the reviews of UK V US region free disks to choose the best quality.
Some I have not because one of two reasons, they did a poor encode and waiting for a better release or they are not out on blu-ray yet. |

of the 39 titles i own on BD, 2 are double dips (dogma and entrapment), which puts me in the .05 to .25 group. there are a bunch i plan on upgrading to BD soon though, when the price is right, like old school, super troopers, all of the movies like those that recently were released on blu

I only double-dipped on Batman Begins, Blow, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Resident Evil, and V for Vendetta. 5/114 is about 4%.
My Blow DVD is still unopened... $5 black friday a couple years back I got Mr. & Mrs. Smith DVD on the same black friday for like $3 got the RE blu trilogy for $45 brand new so the first was basically free and got V for Vendetta on blu for Christmas. So technically, the only true double-dip was Batman Begins, which I would dip again if there was reason to-that movie's so good. ![]() I can't wait to double-dip on some of my favorite DVD's when they come out on blu like Fight Club and The Butterfly Effect |

It seems like many here regret double dipping as much as they have. I'm at 50%. I promised myself early on when we first bought our PS3 that I would strictly limit my double dipping.
Then I watched Blade Runner on Blu ray. There is NO WAY I'm passing up that experience with my favorite movies. I keep my DVDs on hand for two reasons; either I don't have a particular movie on Blu ray yet/it's not available on Blu yet(Basic Instinct, Star Wars), or I don't care enough about the film to upgrade (Aeon Flux). This may sound like an advertisement, but it's how I feel: If you own a movie on DVD because you really enjoy it, and that movie is available on Blu ray, and you have the means to watch it (a Blu ray player and HDTV), you owe it to yourself to at least rent it and watch it on Blu ray. You may see detail you have never seen before, or, as with Blade Runner, detail NO ONE has EVER seen before at home. Do I regret double dipping? HELL NO! ...of course, Live Free or Die Hard UNRATED is not available on Blu ray, double dipping Blu to Blu could get old quick.... |

I love that: 1. If, for whatever reason, I want to watch that DVD again (over watching my Blu ray copy - you know, in case I completely lose my mind) I can just check it out from the library again. 2. Those DVDs are not just collecting dust/taking up space on my shelf - they're getting put to good use. 3. I get to share great movies with others for free. (Well, free except for my original purchase). Yes, I could probably get a few dollars each for them in trade, but it's pennies on the dollar. I could give them away to friends and family, but more often than not they either already have the movie, or are not interested. I get warm fuzzies when I walk into the library and see people checking out the movies I donated - so much so I donated my copy of Call of Duty 3 for the PS3 to the library after I finished it. (Again, if I ever want to play it again, there it is!) So, here you are, free advertisement for your local library on this thread, in addition to my earlier love-fest ode to Blu ray. |
