Do you remember playing that Coluseum? Its at the very end. I remember playing in there longer than I did with the actual story, lol.
yep, I do vaguely. I remember when you go to the coloseum earlier on in the game more however (I think where you meet Ashton - two snake guy).

That was the progression, you will find it used the same battle system as Star Ocean 1, which was a improvement to Tales of Phantasia which is a very solid snes game btw..
Tales of Phantasia was one of those games I was dying to play back in the day. I'm not sure if any of you read Gamefan back in the day, but they always got me so hyped for games (ToP, Suikoden, Policenauts, Rakugaki Showtime, Guardian Heroes, etc...). To this day, I have never read a gaming magazine that comes close to how good that magazine was (layout, substance, personnel, everything). Heck, they were so good they made me want to buy Sakura Wars for the Saturn.

Well there the natural evolution that brought us star ocean 2..
Funny thing is most people dont know how powerful the AI was in star ocean series.. IT was a learning AI, if you took control of that character it would record how you act, and how you fight and create a algorithm so it can recreate that behavior..

Heres the catch if all you did was 1 or 2 moves and nothing else.. the ai would only use those two moves...

You could reteach the AI, but that took awhile but that was a interesting aspect.

Breath of fire 1 and 2 were the best... I got into a boss battle that lasted several hours... But then you have to remeber another series as well then...

Lufia and Arc the lad series

YOU LOSE 1000 HITPOINTS the coloseum you meet Dias Flac for the second time and he kicks claudes butt if your high leveled if your low leveled you might stand a chance to him...

Ashton you meet in the cave fighing a 2 headed dragon, you cheer him on and it causes him to get distracted.

Ive played the snes version of Tales of Phantasia its a very cool game, the battle system is a little odd real time 2d..

But its top notch graphically impressive, its amazing how the snes could do such things...

Its a classic.

dk3dknight, BoF1 and 2 were so addictive. I know they had flaws, but they just had a certain charm to them that just made them so good.

Arc the Lad, I never played although I really wanted the AtL Collection by Working Designs (I think that was the only RPG I didn't own for the original PS1)

Both Lufia 1 and Lufia 2 were great. Lufia 2 is one of my favorite SNES games.

I have and I think it looks like it any other PS1 title. It hasn't be redone whatsoever graphically. I'm at like level 8 so far and its a good time.

I've only played it on the PSP but I'm assuming it's the same for the PS3. It's letterboxed like the other PS1 games with black bars on the left and right side of the screen unless you stretch the picture (which looks fine).

You mean RPGs.. there were 3 arc the lad games for ps one...
The 3rd one I have to say perfected the battle system and fixed anything I disliked about the original.

Yes your right I always felt the breath of fire series had a special feel.

Heres a little trivia on Star Ocean, Geneon released Star Ocean Ex, the anime based on the 2nd game..

It's too bad Working Designs is no more, it would have been nice to have those and the Lunar series on the PSN for newer people to be able to play and enjoy.

I'll definitely have to pick up Suikoden though, it's not like it'll break the bank if I don't like it( but I doubt I will from what everyone else has said about it).

Roger, tell us what you think of it after you have spent some time..

btw the character named Kai I think is the main characters former instructor for fighting
if you find him, hes nice to have in your party, as he adds a unite command that lets
him and main character attack every enemy for double damage and has no adverse effects
for doing so.

The unite attack is called Master Pupil Attack or something like that... remeber to look for
additional combinations.

They condensed the story too much in the animation they covered hours of story in seconds... I wish they would have spreaded it out more.

I just hope we get a true translation, one that is not censored for american ears...

Suikoden 1 & 2 are both great games. The PSN will probably get #2 eventually.

Too bad Konami turned this series into garbage...

Yeah, I like 5 a lot. Not nearly as much as 1 and 2, but it definetely is in the same vein as those 2 games (as opposed to the FFVII-esque clones 3 and 4 were)
