Well there the natural evolution that brought us star ocean 2..
Funny thing is most people dont know how powerful the AI was in star ocean series.. IT was a learning AI, if you took control of that character it would record how you act, and how you fight and create a algorithm so it can recreate that behavior..

Heres the catch if all you did was 1 or 2 moves and nothing else.. the ai would only use those two moves...

You could reteach the AI, but that took awhile but that was a interesting aspect.

Breath of fire 1 and 2 were the best... I got into a boss battle that lasted several hours... But then you have to remeber another series as well then...

Lufia and Arc the lad series

Ashton you meet in the cave fighing a 2 headed dragon, you cheer him on and it causes him to get distracted.

To this day, I have never read a gaming magazine that comes close to how good that magazine was (layout, substance, personnel, everything). Heck, they were so good they made me want to buy Sakura Wars for the Saturn.
Ive played the snes version of Tales of Phantasia its a very cool game, the battle system is a little odd real time 2d..

But its top notch graphically impressive, its amazing how the snes could do such things...

Its a classic.
