That's a bit of a myth. Lucas had rough ideas, but he didn't even plan on Luke and Leia being related until the production of Return of the Jedi. He was changing it up as he went, Gary Kurtz has revealed much of what the original plans were for the series -- I'm not a Lucas-basher, but you have to take the corporate statements about the series at face value.

Heres what i'd do. start with Star Wars Ep I, Star Wars Ep II, Star Wars: The Clone Wars (this one should help keep the little dude interested since its a cartoon) then Star Wars Ep III and next show him the original star wars trilogy.

and btw why in da hell did Lucas change the ending on Return of the Jedi?

to be honest, you should just ignore 1-3 for the time being. And I have more knowledge on that than anyone. I 8 or 9 when episode one came out. And the OT was much better

in fairness, that guy was just wrong, Lucas afaik didn't say that. I know in the New Hope commentary he said he liked the idea of a backstory we didn't know about (clone war, loss of jedi, vader, luke's dad, etc.)

I'd watch them as they came out.

which change? the bigger celebrations? I mean, that makes sense.

Honestly, though I don't like it, the different Anakin makes sense too.

In the very first script, the story was about Luke "Starkiller". As it ought to be, except for the name.

As the "saga" story went on, the idea of nine films (the ones George pretends never existed) was going to pay tribute to "Hidden Fortress" by giving us the story of how the two 'Droids wandered through the war from beginning to end--
It was only after he gave up and just wanted to finish the darn thing with #6 that the saga became about, err....Anakin! Yeah, that's it!

(If you believe the saga was Always About Luke, pass that knowledge on to the next generation before it's too late. Original first. )

Would you watch Lord Of The Rings this way?

1 - Return Of The King
2 - The Two Towers
3 - The Fellowship Of The Ring
Valid point, though the LOTR movies were all filmed at the same time. Technically, the Hobbit movie that is coming out next year is a prequel of sorts.

That is the whole point though. The Republic was like a "golden age" for everyone. Sideous ushered in the oppression and dictatorship of the Empire and the galaxy's aesthetics suffered just as much as individual freedoms.

I like the PT, but I hate Gungans.

I would show him IV-VI but use the original theatrical releases not the added footage crap that was released in the 90's.

I voted to watch them from episode one to six. The problem when I showed them to my daughters was that they wondered why parts Four through six looked so bad compared to parts one to three. They now prefer the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

That's a tough call. I'd say if it was an adult asking it would be original trilogy then prequel trilogy. However, since it is a young one maybe you should go prequel then original. Hmmmmmmm, I can't make up my mind. This is a road I will have to travel in a few years as well since my daughter is year and a half old right now. All i know is that back in the day when I was really little I loved star wars and it was original trilogy back then. It could be really cool though to go in order of 1-6 and see what its like. None of us can do that without any bias or wonderment like the young kids now can.

Oh right, I forgot, how silly of me. It's fashionable now to hate on Lucas because of the trilogy of 1-3.

Let's forget that he had a hand in making some of the best movies of all time, {Original Star Wars Trilogy, Indiana Jones {TRILOGY ONLY} American Graffiti}

Oh wait, because you're trendy and want to do what all your friends are doing, you jump over the cliff with the rest of the lemmings and hate on Lucas.

I'm not saying that he hasn't made a few mistakes {Indy 4} but if you ignore Jar Jar Binks, the Prequel trilogy isn't half bad... it's not cinematic masterpieces by any stretch but it's good popcorn fun.

Logan

On the making of the trilogy special feature {the original 3 box set} I believe Lucas mentioned that he started out with a massive script and cut it into sections and wanted {always} to go back and film the original 3 at a later time.
