Good to know that my MJ SACD is worth so much...but I'm not selling it until I hear of plans to re-release it on Blu.

Default Michael Jackson's Soul Train performances bought for DVD

Quote:
JULY 6 | PHYSICAL: Direct Holdings acquired rights to TV series catalog

By Susanne Ault -- Video Business, 7/6/2009

Much of the Soul Train footage of Michael Jackson is from the time when he sang as part of The Jackson Five.
JULY 6 | PHYSICAL:
Direct Holdings Americas Inc., parent of the Time Life brand, has acquired the DVD distribution rights to the Soul Train TV series catalog, which includes more than 20 years of performances from the late Michael Jackson.
Going forward, Soul Train DVDs will be released under the Time Life label, and series clips will be licensed for other outside uses as well. Much of the material, also including concerts by Al Green, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, among other legendary acts, is being made available for licensing/DVD for the first time. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The deal was in the works prior to Jackson’s surprising death last month, but takes on much greater importance now that demand has sky-rocketed for everything to do with the King of Pop.
“As we begin to comprehend the unexpected and untimely death of an American legend, we realize one of the most fitting ways to reconcile the passing of Michael Jackson is to reflect on all the joyous music he gave the world,” said Peter Griffith, co-CEO of Soul Train Holdings. “Michael was a long time friend of Soul Train, and his performances on the show are as legendary as the performer himself.”
No specific Soul Train DVD titles are planned as yet, but the company has a slew of Jackson show footage it can piece together for forthcoming releases.
From Jackson's days in The Jackson Five, Soul Train includes live performances of “I Want You Back,” “Dancing Machine” “Don’t Say Goodbye Again,” among others.
Jackson also is highlighted as an emerging solo act, including such early 1976 work as “Whatever You Got I Want,” “What You Don’t Know Won’t Hurt You” and “If I Don’t Love You This Way.”
Also included is extensive footage of a more modern Jackson accepting various Soul Train Music Awards through much of the ’90s. In 1995, Jackson was inducted into the Soul Train Hall of Fame with a performance of “Dangerous.”
“To work with and help perpetuate Soul Train’s legacy is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Gary Newman, Direct Holdings executive VP of worldwide product development. “Their archives are incredibly rich and deep and reflect a vibrant part of pop culture that no other show could capture or has been able to replicate ever since.”
Besides home to Jackson material, Soul Train—on the air for 35 years—is notable for holding the record as the longest, first-run nationally syndicated show.

Yeah, why not having a HD MJ Hits here in Blu-ray so that we could listen to his unforgettable songs like Thriller, Do You Remember the Time and the song about his friend mouse, Ben.

I love MJ. I am one of his million fans.
MJ is a legend!

CNN just reported that the judge gave Sony/Columbia the OK to go ahead and release a movie with the rehearsal footage...it will be released in October. They said it's a done deal worth $60 million.

Yeah that looks pretty sweet - I'd love to get a Blu-ray of older footage like that if it cleans up so nicely. I'm sure with the original elements Sony or whomever could do something awesome.

Looks amazing, way better than that previous clip we've all seen beside the guitarist.

This will rock on Blu.

This preview literally makes me cry and I am a 32 year old MAN!!! Lol! I was so concerned I would commit hairy carey (or however the hell you spell it!) in the theater because all I can think about is how much more there should have been from and by Michael Jackson and all the years of waiting for this day in and day out but this looks like one of best films of all time and I am NOT exagerating!!!

I would definetely buy all the Blu-ray videos from MJ if they are released. Sony should do this and there is a huge demand for these audio/video stuff from MJ.

Hmm, wonder why this thread isn't showing up as a related one.

Nice find! Hopefully this is a reference title, hard to imagine it not being.

SCANDELOUS!!! The "This Is It" music release is a "Music Inspired By" and NOT the soundtrack to the movie!!! It's just a compilation of his hits...nothing new other that some blah track or two...UNBELIEVABLE!!! There is no question in my mind that the music and the live vocals of MICHAEL JACKSON in this film are SOOO far beyond phenomenal that there is no excuse to not release this soundtrack...it must something they will release down the road...there is no other explaination...

Having seen the commercial for the movie where it's just Michael singing Human Nature I have to 100% agree with you...it sounds awesome.

Saw "This Is It"...absolutely mindblowing. In MY opinion one of the best films of all time PERIOD!!! FIRST movie where I was fine when it started and was full on weeping by the roll of the beginning credits!! Lol! I was basically o.k. after that but it was INTENSE for me as a die hard fan all my life since I was seven and I am now thirty two...

There is SOOO much to talk about in every frame and every note...for the next hundred years...

Also it not only legitimizes and seals Michael's legacy as the greatest entertainer EVER but it shows the that the media have been demoninzing his health, talents, and character for sixteen years now and they have SOOOO much to answer for. As far as I'm concerned they also have a hand in his death. The media are worse than murderers. For it is one thing to kill a person but it is another to destory their reputation so far that it will never be repaired because no one cares at some point what the facts really were.
