I am really indifferent about this movie. Part of me thought it was absolutely gorgeous and will look great on Blu. The other part of me did not care for the story to much and wished it was maybe 20-30 mins shorter. I know i am probably in the minority, but there are always those couple of people that have problems with the big blockbuster movies and with Avatar i guess i am one of them. I say this now, but when it's released i will get it day 1 if not just to stare at the tv in awe.

yes, I don't think alot of people realize your going to need the following for 3D TV

TV with 120Hz+ refresh rate

Stereoscopic Glasses, The only company i know that makes them at the time is Nvidia

If its a computer monitor you need and Nvidia Geforce DX10 with Physx card

I haven't seen a 3D tv yet on the market so i don't know the whole deal

I remember that Jurassic Park wasn't released on VHS until the Fall of the year AFTER it first came out in theatres (i.e. about 16-18 months), because it stuck around in theatres so long. I know turnaround times have changed, but I'd be surprised to see it out this summer even...

I'd expect we won't see this on BD until around June as mentioned eariler. The film is still raking in cash and is expected to take in another $18 mil or so this weekend, which would put it around $655 mil in the US.

However, the 3D run will end once Alice in Wonderland arrives in early March, so the box office will likely start to drop a bit more when that happens. But as big as this is, I don't see a BD release in 2 months, regardless of what happens.

June's not that far off...

Disney is limiting the run on Alice - I would not be surprised if theaters figure out a way to keep Avatar playing a few times while Alice is there, maybe one on Imax3D and the other on a ReadD 3D screen...

You're not the only one. I thought Avatar was incredibly average.

Up In The Air is a far, far, FAR better movie!

It would be wonderful if they only released it on Blu. Think of the adoption it could invoke on those non-believers.

It will be a day 1 buy for me as well.

Up in the Air is a completely different genre of movie than Avatar. Why even compare the two? One is a blockbuster movie and the other is a smaller indie-type film. It's like saying "Animal House is a great film, but Saving Private Ryan is a much better." Apples and oranges...Unless you're talking about the Best Picture Nominees.

Same here, I really wanted to like this movie but thought it fell short. Predictable and wished I didn't watch this in 3D. Hate to think that this movie is driving more 3D to the theaters and home.

It was beyond average for me too, but..... It is becoming this years Dark Knight, only not nearly as good.

If Cameron gets the Best Director or Best Picture over Tarantino I will light fire to myself.

Why would you? I am sure it would look better with one but Journey to the Center of the Earth, My Bloody Valentine, etc. look pretty darn good on my regular tv.

That's not the sort of 3D that Blu-ray 3D is...

Finally saw it in Imax 3D and it blew my mind. No way any 3D television is gonna match this. The 2D blu will be an Amazon pre-order for me without question.

Good to hear that others didn't like the movie so much. I personally have not seen it but I am guessing it has been hyped up since it was done by Cameron and it has all the CGI and special effects in it. Pretty sad that's all you need to make a few billion these days.

I miss the good old day's of relying more on physical fx instead of just straight for CGI.

I say all that however I will buy it on release day.

Yeah I agree the movies dialogue and story were sub-par at best, the only thing that was good about it was the CGI (much like Camerons other big earner titanic) If it does win Best Picture then thats just pathetic.

It will be well deserved if he does get it.

Its better than a lot of movies that won a Best Picture award this decade (Beautiful Mind, Crash, Gladiator, Chicago)

God, Crash is pure garbage. Dont see how anyone could appreciate it. Every other movie nominated that year was far better, especially Munich. That is the win that soured me on the Academy Awards.

Gladiator is waaaaay overrated, decent but nowhere near Ridley Scotts best. Scott's Kingdom of Heaven Directors Cut is leagues ahead.
