Part of me (the cheapass side) is hoping JP 1 isn't a big improvement. Having to not only double dip but being forced to buy all 3 is a tough pill to swallow. I'll still do it depending, but i need to see some real post-release impressions first.

On the one hand, I'm totally with you on that. On the other hand....

It is possible to regrade the films with the existing film transfers. So the color grades may indeed be vastly different. The existing scan likely has no issues, its what you do with that scan afterwards that's key (grading, HDR, DNR, etc.).

So we'll see.
We've both in the "game" long enough so I'm not surprised we reached the same conclusion. Skywalker Sound = very good development. With regard to the scan...it's a bit more cloudy regarding the prior versions' workflow after the scan. We'll know soon enough I guess...I am a bit worried they took the "newly remastered" of the marketing materials.

Not sure why it's so hard for Universal to provide absolute clarity? Isnt this one of their marquee catalog titles? You'd think they be yelling it from the mountain if this were a true upgrade.

Now they're $84.96 each and on Amazon the Park trilogy is $93.99
Does that mean that preorders are out of stock?

Got the Jurassic World Trilogy 4k from Amazon UK. I'm going to sit and wait for Jurassic Park Trilogy as I want JW to get the Twister 4k treatment. I've noticed on imdb that Twister was shot with Panavision/VistaVision camera whilst JW was shot with VistaVision.

I did try getting the cheaper Amazon France version to ship to the UK. I can ship the JW Trilogy to the US from Amazon France. However, it's not allowing to ship for the UK. UK version is for £49.99. The Feance version is €42.

The VistaVision is for the VFX shots, not the whole movie. Just FYI. And that goes for pretty much anything from that era that has a mix of formats listed on IMDB, you might even see 65mm listed for Ghostbusters but again, it's just for the VFX work.

Sounds to me like some dude in a cubicle answering emails looked up the same confusing contradictory information we've all seen and tried to interpret it just like everyone here has.

It ain't not going to be an all new master from the same previous master again but completely new from the same base materials for the first time again only the same but better than ever and practically identical to the inverse proportional differential hitherto unavailable before until last time.

Is adding DV & DA (and making new steelbooks) the cheapest way they can try to get us to double/triple dip on these for the biggest profit? Plus, not clearly stating what they've actually done is pretty shady.

Indeed. My question is this. Twisters and Jurassic Park were shot 3 years apart by Amblin. We have got an exceptional restoration with Twister even though it’s shot in Panavision. Can Universal do the same with J/Park even though it’s shot with VistaVision?

As time goes on I’m losing faith that this will be nothing but a loathsome cash grab by Universal. I have the cancel button at the ready as soon as someone can leak a screenshot or two.

Can't wait for a YT guru claiming they look nothing like the previous releases and a repeat of the Arrow Inglourious Basterds drama

I still need the Park trilogy in 4K. Is this a new scan by chance? Even if not I'll probably still pick this up. It's about time I upgrade. I only have JP on bluray and TLW and JPIII on DVD.

I don't understand the question. The VV was used for visual effects shots, where it was scanned into a computer, had the CG composited in, then filmed out back to 4-perf 35mm intermediate negative. There is no native VV footage to transfer. (But if there was, it uses more than double the negative area of anamorphic Panavision so why would it be harder to get an 'exceptional restoration' out of it anyway?)

There are few barriers to movies getting 'exceptional restorations' these days, the digital junk we still see is either a director going crazy with the tools (or a studio doing it for them) and/or a bodged compression job right at the end.

Ill rephrase. Can Universal/Amblin give us J/Park close to Twister 4k restoration or that won't be possible?

Exactly. That's why I'm talking about. As long as each disc is on its own spindle or flipper, then everything is usually fine. But when the discs are stacked on top of each other, that's when issues arise.

With stacked discs, there is a huge risk of groove-located scratching...which is a death sentence for many 4K discs. Light vertical (from the center) scratches are generally still readable by the player. But scratches that stretch along a readable groove cause lots of problems for the laser because that scratch can make it hard for the laser to read a significant string of data. The error correction software has no shot to fix it.

There are hardly any answers in Universal's reply. And wasn't JP III also a new 4K scan?

I don't understand why more film grain and corrected color grading is not clearly communicated.
Since Jurassic Park has been screened in cinemas in recent years, the question is whether Universal has created a new master in the meantime or whether only the problematic master from 2018 was shown. In addition to the DNR and the incorrect color grading, the gamma value was a particular problem.
