That's a pretty big difference there. The 3dB boost on theatrical surround channels is meant to be played over an entire array of big surround speakers in a bigger room that are often much farther away from the listener, not two in a smaller home theater that are often much MUCH closer, which is why even when a home mix is otherwise untouched they always make sure to turn the surrounds down by 3dB or else they become overpowering (not to mention how it'd likely wreak havoc on downmixing). Same goes for LFE given that in theaters the bass is meant for a big sub with a big auditorium rather than something tamer in a space usually the size of the average living room.

In theaters, for better retro compatibility they set the surround speakers to run at -3dB compared to home theater surround speakers so you need to reduce each surround channel -3dB compared to as encoded to play it back at home.

My itunes 4k of Jurassic Park has been downgraded to HD. Dolby Atmos has been added to the movie though. Also, JP 3 has been upgraded to DV/DA on iTunes. I'll see if i could add the screenshot via my iPad- done

My copy of JP did the same. So odd and why I dislike digital movies so much. Let's just downgrade your video and change your audio choice. Enjoy!

Edit: Fandango still has it as 4K and DD audio.

It happened to my Prince of Egypt. It was 4k, then HD and then DV4k/DA.
JP and TLW will be upgraded to DV4K/DA.

I was checking last night and it was the older transfer but in SDR instead of HDR10, while Lost World was still HDR10.

I think it was still the original audio and not Atmos.

Can confirm as well. JP is now in HD & TLW is still in HDR10. Odd thing is Jurassic Park still shows up in my library under 4K HDR.

Do we know why Universal did this?

I redeemed the JP 4K codes with MA, when the first steelbook set came out years ago, and the previously on itunes on my AppleTV it streamed at HDR10 with 5.1 audio.

I just double checked with MA and on Vudu JP1 is streaming as HDR10 and 5.1 audio, not Atmos.

JP1 on itunes is currently HD SDR, 5.1 audio.

It will upgrade to DV/DA just like Jurassic Park 3. They need to do the DV/DA upgrade on JP, JP2/TLW and JW. I've seen this happen with The Prince of Egypt being downgraded from HDR10+ to HD and upgraded to DV/DA on iTunes.

We just need someone to sit down and take screenshots of JP when it gets upgraded to DV/DA on iTunes as to what we are expecting in the steelbook.

Universal is re-releasing both trilogies next month with Dolby Vision and Atmos slapped on the same scans as previous 4K releases. No one knows yet if the Atmos tracks will be better than the DTS:X tracks currently available or how much the DV layer will change things.

Makes sense. Definitely curious about the DV layer enhancement. I assume the digital copies will be upgraded to 4K again along with DV.

Which could be just how PC itunes works.

On the itunes PC app page claims that it is currently HD/Atmos.

*Seems as though all video content is using the incorrect color space with the PC itunes app.

My PC iTunes only shows HD for all my movies. I think it's because it detects my screen resolution isn't 4K. On my Xbox, my 4K content does show as 4K in AppleTV app.
