I miss the good old day's of relying more on physical fx instead of just straight for CGI.

I say all that however I will buy it on release day.
Yeah, im with the directors that say "practical where possible, CG where not".

Anyway, My philosophy for judging a movie is that pure originality is beyond every piece of fiction now, and just to judge the movie for what it is. I loved it, but that's because I knew what was likely to happen and was okay with it.

EDIT: I kinda like a Beautiful Mind, but not my favorite. and for the record, Return of the King was very, very deserving. Dont know about the others

I saw an early painted version of the Neytiri bust and was really disappointed in the colours. It looked more like one of those statues you can buy at convenient stores. The blue was way too dark and it just looked cheap, they may fix it though before the final product is released.

yes that was like a first draft but as you can see they've changed the design so hopefully like you say they'll of changed the colours too.

Really dissapointing that you criticise it and say you're happy others didn't like it when you haven't seen it.If you had that's fine but your opinion of what the film is like can't be respected if you haven't.

Exactly. His opinion is irrelevant if he has not seen the movie. BAN PLZ.

Never judged the film. I judged the hype. Go read. Also read the last sentence of my post. Don't get too worked up now

If you're going to buy it on release day, why not go see it now while it's still in 3D theaters?
The theatrical presentation was so impressive to me that I won't be picking it up on home video, it just wouldn't hold up to a giant cinemascope screen in 3D.

You guys need to lighten up a little bit.

I never put down the movie and I never will. I was just happy to see that there were others out there that didn't just automatically hop on the cart and start singing praise because everyone thinks Avatar is the second coming of Christ. The Dark Knight was this way as well. Another good movie that was over hyped.

As usual, there will be people that disagree. That's fine. I honestly don't care. Just respect that. I don't get up in arms with anyone else because their opinion doesn't match the status quo.

Banned? That's a little harsh...He's not criticizing anyone directly, simply the movie...maybe it is a little silly to be so opposed to something you haven't even seen but I don't see it hurting anyone, do you?

This can a tough crowd to please For the record, I--not that it matters--personally saw nothing wrong with your posts...and I too miss the days of good old miniatures and optical effects (one of the reasons I loved "Moon," which was largely that and a movie I would highly recommend to you, Vicon, if you're into sci-fi That's not to say I didn't find the CGI in Avatar extraordinary, which I did. This is one instance where I felt it was used quite effectively and purposefully).

Anyway, I wonder how far apart the 2D and 3D versions will be from each other...who here plans to buy both?

How in the world would you do Avatar with traditional effects?
I'm not a fan of the cheap CGI that permeates so many newer films, but this is NOT cheap, cheesy CGI by any stretch.

Thanks. Like I said, I will buy it because I love Sci-Fi. I just wished movies did more with physical effects instead of just straight to green screening it.

Anyways, I will step away from this thread and let you all be.

Why guess about the hype surrounding Avartar? You should go see the movie and judge for yourself. Maybe you'll believe the hype once you've seen it (or not). I know my opinion of the movie did a 180 after seeing it.

I've seen it twice and believe you me, I am not a fan of the movie theater experience either.

*raises hand* I plan to buy both versions of Avatar. I love the movie and dont mind double dipping on it. Granted, I'll probably wait for the price of the 3D version to drop quite a bit seeing as how my TV doesn't support 3D.

Good im relieved as it seemed a bit overboard I don't think i was though about his view can't be respected if he hasn't seen the film .Im totally relaxed about saying it im just putting my point across i think its fair enough you can't criticise a film if you haven't seen it thats all.Whos the person who said he's seen the film and loved it but wont buy it? The whole point in buying it is so you can watch it again as thats the only way you're gonna manage it or you're never going to be able to see it ever again.
