If the actual picture quality is the same as before then there's no way it's suddenly so good only because colors are better.

IIRC on the disc there is this weird shot where everything goes burning-orange (or something funky), when Gennaro is having a conversation with Hammond in the jeep. Did they fix it?

Opened up the forum for the first time in months to check out this release and I see the ol' place is still at it again with the hijinks, lol.

Sounds to me like that magenta fix was grossly exaggerated, maybe even edited on the phone. Suppose we won't know for sure until someone with a calibrated display gets the discs in hand?

No I watched parts of the movie, it’s definitely dialed out, at least on parts of the movie. But it didn’t feel consistent— the early scenes in the Badlands definitely looked different, as did the night scenes with the T-Rex and Nedry rushing around. It was definitely an improvement when I compared the two.

But then there were some scenes that looked identical to me, like when they first arrive at the park and encounter the dinosaurs for the first time. I didn’t notice anything different comparing the two there.

I can say that I liked it well enough that I’d watch the ITunes stream now over the disc, but it’s also definitely not a massive remastering that people want for the film.

Hi. Just compared my 4k blu ray (hdr filmaker mode) vs iTunes 4k DV/DA ( Dolby vision Dark mode/Filmaker mode). There is a difference in the Badlands. The sky is bluish in iTunes 4k whereas the sky is pinkish on 4k blu ray at 6 min mark.

I hope this comment wasn't aimed towards me. I've been very clear that my iPhone processed the images causing exaggeration, most likely due to the HDR, but in no way is there editing. That magenta is gone. Some scenes had significantly more magenta than others but there is a noticeable difference.

I just took another shot, this time on an SDR monitor via SDR Movies Anywhere and SDR Apple (new grading):



The difference is there

This is what I've seen through digitals as well. The new version does look better. Perfect? Naw. But far closer to what I'd expect Jurassic Park to look like than previous releases.

The much wished-for "massive remastering" will likely never happen, or happen if and when a superior format comes along. It's rather baffling as JP isn't exactly an obscure little movie from a forgotten franchise that failed to turn a profit for the studio. On the contrary.

With that said, the pics posted not long ago look pleasing - if the original is released individually down the road, I'll relent and finally upgrade my old Blu-ray.

If that's what ends up being on disc, that's good enough for me to upgrade + getting DV.

Come one itunes update our digital copies already, well past time to revisit Jurassic Park.

I remembering seeing this in the theater opening day and it was awesome.

Even though my first viewing had the open matte projection misaligned and we could see the boom mics in various shots, such as inside the trailer with Grant, Sattler, and Hammond, it was still awesome.

I might have stepped out and told them to have it fixed, can't remember for certain, but I do recall seeing those boom mics a number of times.

To be clear, it's always the case that the new 4K stream image will be the same source as the new UHD disc, correct?

I have no reason to believe otherwise and I know bitrate can vary, but I want to assure gospel truth is all.
