My 4K T.V. set is SDR and I see a subtle improvement on Pacific Rim on UHD BD over its BD counterpart.
On some 2K to 4K upscales the difference is not so subtle as in Star Trek Into Darkness, The Martian or Battleship.
I know I'm not getting the most out of my UHD BD discs but I'm quite happy with the picture quality my current set up gives me. I'm not buying a new T.V. for the moment, I think in two years we'll se affordable Dolby Vision sets with 10 bit panels.

I actually wouldn't put Pacific Rim in my top 5 in terms of PQ, but it is a pretty significant upgrade over BD.
It is, because of wonderful HDR and color. Not because of detail, which is a subtle upgrade at best. I'm far from alone in saying this, and I do see sizable detail upgrades in other titles like X-Men Apocalypse and Magnificent 7, so at some point it's just an agree to disagree type thing.

My experiments with SDR conversion are that you still get a good bit of the HDR effect. Geoff has said the same thing. So yeah, PR should still whoop the normal blu. It's a lovely looking disc.

Pacific Rim was 2K. Not exactly the best example to use. Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, Sully, The Revenant, John Wick, among others, all have significantly more detail on UHD BD than BD. Hell, Better Call Saul (streamed in 4K on Netflix but shot at 6K) has a very sharp and pristine picture, and it's not even on disc, nor is it in HDR.

So we agree 100% then? This is so confusing.

I just placed an order for this at Best Buy. I can't wait to see how beautiful this movie is in HDR. It cost a bit more than what I usually pay for these movies, but I think I'll be quite satisfied in the end.

Been watching like a hawk for this to drop down to $19.99. Since Goodfellas UHD finally dropped recently, my hopes are up that this will soon as well.

Goodfellas and some others dropped temporarily because of a Best Buy sale Amazon is matching. Pacific Rim was not included in that sale.

Yeah the only time to get this at a reasonable price was during that "Buy 2 Save $10, Buy 3 Save $20" sale.

Which is when I got it, along with the first two Trek reboots, before I even had my new player.

Dude what was that? That was the lamest thing I've ever read or seen posted. Wow! If you think that relates to people skills you really need to get out more.

If you have a download code for the Dolby Vision version, use it. Color is amazingly better than even the HDR version.

I gave this a watch last night, and I must say, this is the best looking movie I have ever seen. I haven't watched too many movies in UHD, but this is the best one so far. The colors, the blacks, the whole movie was simply beautiful on my TV. I know my TV is not the best at HDR, but I can easily say that this was a big improvement over the blu ray. This makes the upgrade worth the money that I spent to get in on the 4K UHD experience. I'm quite happy with my set up.

Just finished watching this on my fake 4k TV...
Even with the fake 4k and screen tear, MAN, THIS LOOKED AMAZING!!!

So, I was just reading the Wikipedia page and it says that Hunam isn't in the sequel due to a scheduling conflict.
I checked his page and the only thing it listed was King Arthur (in theaters now) and something else in post.
So it seems there is no scheduling conflict as this the sequel is a late next year movie.
What are the chances of him being in it?

I would be willing to bet that he wasn't offered enough money,in his eyes, and he said no thanks.
