I know they go down that much when Barnes and noble have their criterion sales. But today at Best Buy they had a few scream factory titles for $19.99 the criterion titles were $28-35, yet I made a blatantly false post saying SF titles were $10-15 cheaper.

I don't think most Criterions drop that low. I mostly see them drop to like $27.99 on Amazon.

Loads of Criterion titles regularly drop to 23 dollars on Amazon.

That was fun! I didn't realize I'd ordered so few. I guess I must have just gone nuts on B&N sales since I have like a hundred of them.

Anyway, I find it amusing to continue these arguments, but I realize it was just an off-the-cuff remark and if you buy from Best Buy or other stores that don't discount like madmen you're going to probably encounter that kind of price difference. The local record store I buy Scream stuff from prices almost all the collector's editions right at 20 dollars on release date, and their Criterion prices are almost as bad as B&N's on non-sales.

I know it used to happen more regularly in the past, but it's certainly not for all titles, and not as much lately. I believe some of those were either sales or PM's of BB's sales too. But fair enough, they do drop some occasionally, StingingVelvet just made it seem like it was consistent with all titles, and I haven't seen that and was wondering if I was missing some other outlet to get them.

I dont know if its been mentioned but, I hope the 2.0 audio is original lossless in quality and not a mixdown from the 5.1 track.

Granted I don't buy a ton of them but usually when I get a Criterion it's around $22.99. It could be the ones I'm buying too though, which are probably the more "mainstream" ones from Cronenberg, Anderson, Kubrick, Gilliam, etc.

I can't imagine the transfer possibly being worse than the old. EFNY was the only time that was even arguable, with the others all looking slightly to a lot better. I'm sure this will be the definitive version this generation (and probably forever, considering physical media trends).

You know, I popped in Phantom of the Paradise today and noticed that it was looking rather dark. I know it's probably been discussed to death on its own board but Shout just can't seem to get things right and I want them to do better with their titles because then they really would be the best distributor.

I'm going to hope some reviews come out early but I'll probably bite on it anyway. I mean, it couldn't be THAT bad, right?

Actually, Shout did improve the transfer. Both Shout and Arrow were stuck with what they were given by the studio. Arrow didn't touch it, and it looks even worse. Shout did some adjustments and got it to look relatively decent. I'll still take the French disc over both, but I wouldn't bash Shout on this particular issue.
