Expect plenty more price hikes to come for everything else on other streamers.

Which is fine for me, as long as there is good new content.

Nice to see that these shows will be available somewhere instead of being locked away.

Uh oh - Once Warner loses the rights for all their stuff, I assume we can expect the shitty remakes and retries to start flooding the market? .

What classic title or IP will get butchered first?

Loses rights? It is a licensing deal until Warner can get their own FAST up and running. The shows that do not move the financial needle at HBO Max can live on at another service. That service gets ad revenue and new viewers, Warner/Discovery gets a bigger payment. That’s what Paramount, Disney, and Sony have been doing.

Why would Warner lose rights?

Glad they arent - I assumed somehow this was gong to lead to content being under different umbrellas and able to be screwed with. If thats not the case then good.

WB has been fine doing it themselves (Jack the Giant Slayer, PAN, Legend of Tarzan, Space Jam 2, Green Lantern, BvS, King Arthur)

Discovery+ Now Expected to Survive As Standalone Streaming Service As HBO Max Expands
The plan would allow the company to retain subscribers who don't want to pay more for the combined super-service's scripted entertainment fare.

In a slight pivot to its streaming strategy, Warner Bros. Discovery expects to keep Discovery+ as a standalone streaming service, even after it launches its combined super-service with HBO Max later this year, a source familiar with the plans tells The Hollywood Reporter.

WBD announced the plan to combine HBO Max and Discovery+ last year, arguing that they have complementary content and subscriber bases. The combined service is expected to launch in the spring under a new name.

The new service would bring together HBO content like The Last of Us, HBO Max content like Hacks and Discovery content like shows from Magnolia Network, HGTV and Discovery. That will still be the case under the new plan, however, the company will keep Discovery+ as a lower cost option for people who don’t want the scripted entertainment programming, potentially allowing it to retain subscribers that would otherwise churn out instead of paying more.

I'm getting the impression he sits in his office throwing darts at a dart board labeled with possible decisions.

He's great at saving money and cutting costs. Now lets see how good he is at producing content fit for WBD.

Yeah I am curious to see what they come with next. With Last of Us being such a hit for them, will they go after more video game properties?

They don’t need to when you have House of the Dragon (and another Game of Thrones spin off on the way), Succession, Euphoria, and a few others. I am sure other studios/streamers will now gobble up all the video game properties to replicate what HBO has done here with the Last of Us but none of the other streamers are HBO.

God of War is already with Netflix. Still plenty out there to snatch up.
