Yes, genuine improvements from the small sample size I was able to experience. Hopefully I’ll get more time between now and tomorrow to view more.

Can you be more specific about which release (yr of the release on UHD) are you talking about?

Pretty sure he's referencing another user's post from the dedicated Steelbook thread;

Yes, the technical jargon of "looks like ass". Wake me when someone sounds like they know what they are talking about. Love to see this uncalibrated set up he/she is using to review discs with.

Their "take" may very well be spot on, but it's hard to take someone seriously when that's their level of writing.....don't get me started on the member who asked the original question.

I thought TLW looked great from the get go, the first 4K release we got - unless of course, that's no longer the prevailing mindset.

Still hoping for someone to clear up that whole magenta mess lol, or for more analytical observations than "more balance image with richer blacks" or "looks modestly improved".

Yeah, this, pretty much, lol.

That's what I get for canceling my preorder, could've done this myself. Oops.

Thank you guys for the opening remarks!

Didn't Jurassic Park 3 have an HD DI on release? I never saw Universal going back to OCN on that particular title.

I wrote the post that he's referencing and that you're denigrating. As I mentioned, I only spent about 20 minutes total looking at the discs, so it didn't seem appropriate to write a detailed response, I only wanted to give my immediate impressions since I haven't seen anyone else's yet online. FYI I buy discs to watch and enjoy them, not to professionally review them.

I appreciate that you took the time to do so. But, saying something looks like "ass" doesn't lend itself to be taken seriously. Maybe it's the age gap between us.....

That being said, any feedback should be appreciated. Please ignore my harsh comments and let me say thanks for taking the time to post some thoughts.

'still looks like ass' as in, JP3 has never looked great on home video, and this newer 'remaster' is a marginal improvement at best. The film still looks washed-out, desaturated with minimal fine detail, but maybe that's always been the 'intended' look?

EDIT: I'm pretty sure I'm mistaken on Jurassic Park III. As you were.

Again, JP and TLW are struck from 35mm OCN whereas JP3 was finished on early 00's DI, so unless they rescanned the 35mm OCN and struck a brand new DI, you're reaching limited results with using that source to make a UHD transfer.

I would've adored a fully restored Jurassic Park III but it doesn't seem to ever be in the cards, sadly.

This post just yelled "Alan!" at me.

But yeah, I'd agree that JP3 has always looked bad (and, in my personal opinion, been bad, but that's neither here nor there).

This is the first I'm hearing of Jurassic Park III being given a DI finish. None of the existing releases give that impression; they just look like no real care was put into the presentation. I can't remember how the film looked on 35mm but I find it hard to believe that it looked like a typical magenta-pushed telecine.

These films need to be properly remastered (and they wouldn't even need to perform new scans to do so), but it sounds like all Universal is doing is an almost-effortless bare minimum upgrade.

I would love to read that rushed script that Alexander Payne wrote up that they apparently only used one line from. It's also the only line in the movie that gets a genuine laugh out of me.

When Billy is looking at all the mercenaries loading up and asks where they would know the Kirbys from.

Billy Brennan: How do you know the Kirbys?
Cooper: ...Through our church.

Where am I pulling that from? I could've sworn it was. Now I can't find anything to corroborate that. Sorry about that. Long-held misconception.
