The studio would be using the 4k scan master, if the 35th Anniversary release was from an ultra-high res telecine of the OCN's. They wouldn't be using a 1080p or 2k DI and upscaling it since there is a 4k scan to go by. They would then create a Dolby Vision HDR pass from the raw scan file. The problem would come if they decided to not use the DP's approved color timing and slathered it with DNR. |

I spent eight years trying to resolve that grain, and then another seven trying to wipe it clean, because I realized that what was living behind that optical texture was purely and simply... evil.

Do you mean "DiviMax"?
If so, the DVD we've been discussing -- Anchor Bay's THX disc -- didn't use the DiviMax transfer. On a side note, the DiviMax version/transfer of the original Dawn of the Dead I own actually looks very nice (Halloween, from what I have seen, had issues in terms of color timing). |

That first transfer was dreadful. Waxy, everyone looks sun-baked, the signature Carpenter/Cundey blue and orange glows are absent... the only “orange glows” to be seen are emanating from the characters’ faces. That and it’s got far too bright and sunny a look for October in Illinois. The 35th (almost certainly the same master used to source this UHD edition), while having a fair amount of greenery, has an appropriately cold chill in the outdoor scenes, capturing the feeling of Halloween in IL very well. And being from the middle of the state, I can say that on Halloween day, there’s still a fair amount of green grass and quite a few green trees. |

Lionsgate doesn't have digital rights. They actually don't own the rights at all. They're just the physical distributor for the actual owners, Trancas International... and Trancas only distributes digitally through iTunes and Amazon.
