I don't buy, it is older. Watched many older movies that look fantastic. Maybe it is because the camera and the action is constantly moving, it is hard to get a clear focused shot. Or the director's intention, it is filmed in dark overcast weather or low lit indoor scenes until the very end which also isn't too bright.

It looks very good and clean, no grain. Wondering if I should say what I really think, it is kinda a dirty word around here, DNR? I don't know much about the topic and Gladiator looked fine to me. But Bourne Identity to me the PQ seems a bit soft, not what I was expecting.
What you said is quite true, so don't worry about what everyone may or may not think. I agreed the PQ in the first one is not quite "reference quality", per se; yet the actions and story are both awesome to make up for whatever think of the PQ. It is hard to find good action / spy movie with intelligent writing and excellent action sequences these days. So I really love this trilogy. I know they are planning a 4th one right now, so hopefully it is at least as good as the first three.

The only problem I have with the person's opinion is the fact that the first movie looks just fine and some movies will never be reference quality. There are some older movies that do look better, but the majority of those are movies that got really extensive restorations and such. Once again, I agree that it's not reference quality, but I still think the movie and the PQ make a good combo. It still has very nice detail for the most part, so DNR is not the problem. It has more to do with the look the director was going for than anything being wrong with the encode. I'm not crapping on the person's opinion. I'm just saying I think it's a little off.

No harm. I'm just not seeing what people see when they complain about DNR. Like I said, Gladiator looks fine to me. I was just taking a stab in the dark. Wondering what people thought of the first's PQ. Even though I know a lot haven't seen it because of the price.

I'm not one that will refuse to buy a movie I love because of DNR either, although I would rather it not be used of course. I agreed with you somewhat, but not with everything. I'd give The Bourne Identity a solid 4 for PQ and was pleased, but it is probably the worst looking of the three.

In my initial user review I mentioned the age of the film, which I now admit has little or nothing to with transfer quality in this particular case, since it's only been seven years and a lot of other/older Universal titles look just as good, if not better. I was simply giving a quick, though obviously uneducated, observation based on beginner's knowledge of film/transfer technicalities (or what I thought I knew) and what I literally saw with my own two eyes.

Since then, I'd still stick with my rating of a 4 and repeat that the film does have an unexpectedly high amount of artifacts and grain when Supremacy and Ultimatum look much better, despite only being two and five years down the road and with the same photographer in Oliver Wood. I'm guessing Universal encoded all three films around the same time, but for whatever reason Identity still has a fair amount of artifacts and grain. As long as they're encoded in 1080p and miles above DVD, though, I have no qualms.

Oh, and in my "Overall" review of the box, I mention that while I like Casino Royale, I didn't care much for Quantum of Solace. Boy, was I wrong back then. I give all the credit in the world to Damon for an equally masterful performance being Bourne parallel to Craig as Bond. But after watching CR and QoS back-to-back a few times now, the storytelling adds a great sense of depth to Bond's character as a spy and a person, whereas Bourne is more so just an unfortunate result of "the system." Though, Supremacy did a great job trying to convey a sense of humanism within Bourne, and finally re-humanizng in Ultimatum.

I haven't made an official user review for QoS yet to compliment my CR one, but you can read more about my interpretation of the new Bond via the Casino Royale: Collector's Edition user reviews.

I have to agree. I love it not so much for the action of the film but the development of the Bourne character. I can't think of any film that would be gutsy enough to close with the apology scene. That made everything you saw before become that much more important.

I also love that it introduced Pamela Landy into the series. I love Joan Allen, particularly in that role: smart, determined and yes sexy! I loved how Landy and Abbot butted heads throughout the film each of their own agendas.

Great, great film!!

I actually don't have a problem with the visual look of the first film. I don't think it's an over-DNR job. What I do appreciate about the first film over the other 2 is that it's shot naturally, instead of overly processed like SUPREMACY or processed as ULTIMATUM. I feel it's a good looking film.

As for as the sound I have ZERO complaints!! I was actually amazed by the DTSMA track. Didn't think this film's track would sound that good! In fact i'd rate the sound above SUPREMACY though the best track is ULTIMATUM.

I, too, really enjoyed these films and have been waiting patiently for the price to drop to something reasonable or a special deal. Anybody hear of anything coming down the pipe?

We're all hoping for some type of Black Friday deal. It's long overdue.

I thought Supremacy was the weakest out of the three. I love all three films, and I am often times torn between Identity and Ultimatum. I like Identity 'cos Damon plays the amnesia part perfectly, and I still love seeing how it all initially plays out. Ultimatum just finished it off beautifully, and the action was insane. I didn't care much for the camera shake in Supremacy, but it's still one of my fav's (just under Identity and Ultimatum).

I still can't believe I picked up this set back when it first got released for $34.99. I used a Best Buy Reward Zone Certificate and a tax software deal Best Buy had to drop the price from $64.99 to $34.99.

If it doesn't drop in price on Black Friday, I'd wait for deepdiscount to have their sale. If you use Bing cashback, then you can save 4% off the price as well. Right now it would be around $57.57 using the cashback option.

Hopefully the prices will be better for the single releases. $70 for three catalog titles is horrible IMO.

The box set it really really awesome IMO but it doesn't exactly fit with the rest of my collection (I'm guessing, do not own yet) and the slipcases on the singles look freakin' awesome!

Why is life so hard.
