I can get this new German one for about £11 on Amazon UK. Tempted but still havent gone ahead...

I translated the Japanese text on Amazon JP (using Google Translate) about the new box set and it says although they are 'importing' the current HD master, implies they are also performing some clean up/restoration work on it.

Just as a side question does anyone have the German Blu Ray of the Children of Dune Mini Series, is it a decent transfer?

I thought it was due to my Sony not having 50Hz compatibility.

Is your blu-ray player on this list of 50Hz compatible players?

Is that Dune (DE) blu-ray a 1080/50i (or 25p)? It's supposed to be Region Free according to Amazon.de ... not to say they are 100% accurate.

I've encountered other region free, European blu-rays that didn't playback on my S790 - Kenneth Clark's Civilisation being the most recent. But that's definitely a 50Hz issue.

As I said on the last page it is definitely not 1080i it's 1080p and region free. Played perfectly on my Panasonic which cannot play 1080i50 content like your Sony or region B discs. Unless we are not talking about the same release lol...hard to keep the German releases in line

Do the TV version bits look really ropey? Is the effect jarring or not when it switches from theatrical to extra bits? I imagine this 2-disc one has more/different extras to the US disc too right?

you can see the shift in quality when they edit in the TV footage. The editing is seamless but you can only notice it if your up close. Personally i didn't think it looked ropy at all. the audio (DTS-MA 5.1) seems in line as well. For what you could call a fan edit, it's well done.

Features wise, You have the deleted scenes on disc one and the trailer on disc two. nothing else.

I live in the UK and have ordered the disc from Amazon Germany. Really looking forward to seeing the longer version (the video glitch is a pain but at least I know when its coming).

If the Japanese release proves superior am sure I will end up importing that too.

Like bigrob posted, it's not ropey, it's surprisingly well done (that glitch aside) for what's essentially a high-class fan edit. The audio is 5.1 DTS MA throughout -- I think if you want to see the pseudo-longer version in full 2.35 (with the theatrical cut's true HD US transfer used as a guide), I think it's worth it. Unless the Japanese disc gives us something more than the "4:3 Standard" presentation they're promising us.

That's the ticket if it does. Even if it doesn't I am keeping my U.S. DVD simply because it's glitch free.

I ordered a few days before it was showing on UK and it worked out as 1pence less! Any saving is a good one I suppose haha.

I haven't seen it, but have been told that the PQ on the DE release is decent.

I was just worried the disc would be deleted and never seen again so took a chance. I know where the glitch happens so I'll just blink for two seconds
