So now amazon, Best Buy and Target have it for $24.99

Is Wal-Mart $24.99 in store as well? Online it's still $34.99! I only ask cuz I have a giftcard there. They will price match though right?

Thanks!!

EDIT: Nevermind, they just updated their site and it is now $24.96

So there are three different versions of this film on one bluray disc? How did they manage that without making the video quality suffer?

picked up my copy this morning. Gotta say I like the packaging...but for Mr. Cameron to be a tree hugger he sure used alot of paper...might of been better if it was in an amaray :S

I really love the packaging! Well worth it for one of my favorite movies!

I'm watching some of the special features right now.

The packaging is aces. "Capturing Pandora" was a pretty solid documentary. Not the best I've seen, but solid enough to get an understanding of the technological hurdle Cameron went through.

On to the rest of the supplements...

Watching the documentary. It's ok, I think the problem is that they used EPK interviews. This is the second release I've bought and I still feel like they're selling me the film.
It has some great behind the scenes footage and the making of is a fascinating story but all that footage is narrated by interviews about how great everything and everyone is.
After the (brutally) honest Abyss doc, this feels glossed over.

went to WM this morning pick up Avatar & The Last Airbender. Yes, WM has Avatar for $24.96 & TLA single disc $17.96.

so, when i got home and opened Avatar, low and behold those ASS MONKEYS put those security stickers right on the inside picture. so, if i peel them off along comes the picture. so, u know what i did, took it back and complained. a manager was there when i went to CS so i showed him my problem. so, we went to the electronics got another one and opened it and it was done right. the stickers were on a little white card.

as we was walking to the front we started talking about movies and how i like my packaging perfect and he was like, "i'm the same way". he said, "i check to make sure there's no damage whatsoever." it was a nice talk but it got better. he gave me a $5 gift cardfor my troubles and being a person the he can relate to..

Nothing beats a manager who can relate to you. Way to go!

Wow, Cool - I just picked up my pre-ordered copy of Avatar Extended Collectors 3-disk blu-ray at Ultimate Electronics in York, PA over my lunch hour, for only $17.95, straight price, with no coupons or anything! - when I preordered it three weeks ago, it was at $24.95...

kippy,

I totally agree with you about the documentary and furthermore the rest of the supplement material, which are essentially the same things we see in the documentary, but the full version of whatever subject is being discussed.

It's slight overkill.

Ultimately, if you want a somewhat detailed, broad overview of this film, just watch "Capturing Avatar". The rest, if you're really truly interested, you can wait until later.

The only featurette that really felt educational was the featurette on the editing of the film. It's pretty wild what Cameron did with the shooting and editing of this film.

Yea, so you just go back there with your receipt, & either return it/buy the lower priced one, or have a manager give you the difference on your CC (or cash, if you paid that way). Easy solution, right? Should be no problem.

I was sleeping in today & heard my front door open a bit after 10am. It was UPS dropping off Extended 3-disc set. Not a big fan of the slide-out disc holder with the little flap, but if you're careful with the discs, that shouldn't be a HUGE issue to be honest. It's not the best design sure, but what can you do (aside of course, from buying a 3-disc Amaray case (but then you'd have to print out cover art & hope you get it right from what you have here; & that's not an easy feat IMO). Anyway, the Case coming out of the outside container IS a pretty tight fit to get to the discs. Very glossy package also. I'll get to the Extended Edition hopefully tomorrow (having an Electrician come to update some things in the basement Weds. a.m.)

OK, so I havent been really following the details of the releases, I just knew enough to wait till now.

The one that came out in APril was a Special Edition that had like 7 minutes of extra footage (could you pick between theatrical and special, or were you forced to watch only one; and was the extra footage available as deleted scenes?)

The one out today is a collectors edition that has a total of 16 minutes of extra footage, the 7 minutes from the special edition and 9 extra for this release? And same ques as above- is this all forceable intertwined in this version, or can you select which one to watch and / or see the footage in a deleted scenes montage?

Thanks for verifying my understanding

Nice score Troy! (I was charged $21.40/Amazon so for $3, no need to send my set back)

Yes - the Extended Edition has the 7-8 minutes from the theatrical re-release, PLUS 9 Additional minutes for the 16 total minutes. Also, YES, you can watch this 16 minute version, the re-release version (with the 8 minutes extra footage), or the Original release from last December when it 1st came out. All you really have to do is click on the REVIEW posted yesterday on this site; it gives you ALL the info & answers every question about what is in this 3-disc set.
