Watch the movie and study how it was shot, blocked, setup, directed, and edited, then watch a TV commercial for any product but especially a cell phone commercial and study the same aspects, then compare and contrast how these aspects are similar. The execution is like that of a badly done hyper plastic TV commercial.
Alternatively compare and contrast the original trilogy (in particular both Spielberg entries) with the last Trevorrow film. I see you've already done that and don't see any real difference between them worth criticizing which says a lot. |

![]() Weird axial cuts, no sense of geography, losing track of entire characters in the edit; yep, looks like a Trevorrow production! |

Comparing an entire scene meant to convey tension and stakes to a fast-cut cell phone ad is a stretch. One has to serve storytelling, the other’s just selling data plans.

I don't get the "partially stacked" complaint at all. The discs don't touch each other, it's the same kind of packaging Criterion and a ton of others use. It's a total non-issue.

-The DTS LaserDisc -The AC3 LaserDisc -The (corrected) DTS DVD The DTS LD has the surrounds 3dB too high and the sub a couple dB too high as well, but that part I can live with. The AC3 is just about on the money, and may have a higher dB LFE compared to the cinema mix. The DTS DVD (corrected) is just about the same as well. You can't go wrong with any of those. Even the LPCM LaserDisc Dolby Surround track is phenomenal. It's a shame that Universal has ditched the original mix on every HD/4K release. |

Just doing the grossly unscientific test of eyeballing the old JPIII and then swapping in the new one to compare, I’m not seeing any of the overt improvements that the first film got. It’ll take a site like caps-a-holic to prove the issue one way or another, but if the new disc is an improvement, it’s a meager one, sad to say.

Amazon sent me three copies of Arrow's Friday the 13th 4k, but only charged me once. I checked my bank account like three times. They're still sitting here waiting for them to be worth something.

Masking, its where louder sounds mask lower sounds (lossy compression depends on this). Rearranging them into different channels as objects will unmask sounds you've never noticed before. There's also different levels (emphasis) on those sounds. It was mentioned earlier in the thread by a poster he noticed on the opening sequence on certain sounds in the surrounds were higher in the remixes than the original.
