I'm so glad I don't work the Entertainment department anymore at Target. I'd be dying inside being responsible for all these downsizings. I remember when DVD and blu-ray were a grand part of that area spanning aisles and two walls. Just makes me so sad.

Also makes me feel so old when thinking about it. That was almost a decade ago.

They probably make more money off a book than a movie.

Not for the customers if they want to resell it online lmao. With blus with slipcovers you can get like $8-20 profit.. but books? they're a killer to ship with how much they weigh.. and used book stores will only take them for pennies.

The "I throw my slips away" people will still buy it with slip just so they can brag about throwing it away

Sales for books is higher than sales for movies at most targets. So yes, more are buying books.

Books are what media mail exists for. You couldn't pick a better item to mail, it costs so much less than first class and priority. Same way DVD and Blu-ray discs are mailed.

Target seems to be getting much more into selling manga recently, which are being scalped like crazy and selling for way above MSRP on the resale market.

With how backlogged all of the printing is, quite a few customers are buying once they see them on shelves.

Some of the more popular series are perpetually out of stock.

I'm not surprised that they see it as good investment considering how fast they are selling out and without any discounts.

If only resellers buy blus, you have a problem. Target has little interest in how much someone can profit, except for their own corporate bottom line.

I saw Demon Slayer manga at my Target. I should've bought them and resold!!!

also my local Target is right across my local Barnes & Noble so no idea why anyone would go to my Target for books lmao

Think of the Target demo as well. A ton of families, a ton of mom's. They're more likely going to pick up a good book over this week's new release movie

Why would reselling matter?

If 10 legit customers buy a movie, or 5 scalper/resellers & 5 legit customers buy a movie ...it's the same exact thing

the same moms who buy $8 Starbucks drinks 3x a day and say "$40 for my family to go to the movies every 2 weeks is too expensive!!!" ???

Because Barnes is also out of stock?

Take Demon Slayer for example. If you look through Barnes and Noble, quite a few volumes aren't in stock and the next restock won't be until late November or December.

If Target has it, why wouldn't they buy it from there?

Found a couple of things I hadn’t seen at these prices (Apocalypse Now is the same price on Amazon):

Doesn't Target offer 20% off MSRP on books too? Or is it 10%? That discount with the RedCard 5% will make the manga cheaper than B&N even with the membership card.

I believe so at 20% discount but that might just be limited to their in store catalog. Online catalog seems to have some volumes still at MSRP.

Putting stickers on the manga has to annoy some of the collectors though.
