Most are buying 4k of blu-rays I have and blu-rays are of movies I don't think will be on 4k. So double dipping for this JURASSIC sets at $100 left a bad taste when the set I had was good enough. |

Wait wtf? So JP get a more neutral color grade and a better looking grain structure. Yet TLW gets hit with DNR, this true? I really hope not because that makes no sense to improve the look of grain on one film to mess with it on another in the set?

Is anyone else unimpressed by the new TLW Dolby Vision grade? I feel like it's dimmer than the 2018 HDR grade.
It also doesn't help that my TV calibrator demonstrated the HDR10 grade of TLW on Kaleidescape for me just before I got the new disc, and it blew my mind how incredible the specular highlights looked, particularly in the rainy sequences (including the trailer sequence). It just had this tangible feel, that reminded me a lot of the HDR grade on the original Blade Runner 4K disc, and reminded me of what HDR is really capable of. Both discs look flat in comparison (and the opening titles on the new disc look worse, I think). Anyway, I'm really upset that Kaleidescape isn't just a repository of Bluray rips for rich people and actually has superior encodes. Ignorance truly was bliss. |

I haven't even opened my steelbook UHD yet. I'm afraid to.
Instead I watched my old JP UHD last night, had a great time with it and had absolutely no problems with its transfer. The new UHD would have to be on some sort of unseen next level PQ, for me to even think of upgrading now. The only real thing I noticed about the old UHD was about the sound. The DTS is different to the original DTS I heard at the cinema and on my old DTS DVD. Missing were some pretty distinct front to back surround effects, that were in the original DTS mix. Not a dealbreaker, since the sound is still fantastic, but it surprised me, that when the guy shoots the thing into the ground and the raptor appears on the TV screen, the sound no longer travels all through my living room as it did before. It was such an amazing effect to hear and feel in the cinema back then, and I'm sure it was in the original DTS mix for that reason too; To amaze the audience. |

watched LW lasty night. In a vacuum I couldn't complain about any noise reduction. Just like JP I believe what's here is better handled than recent WB releases. No soupy, crawling, magnetic grain that I could detect. Was too tired to pop in the old UHD but I'll do that later this evening.
Blacks are a bit crushed but also a but better handled here than the original release from what I remembered. I remember reading somewhere the Spielberg wanted this film dark and dirty. The original was meant to be bright and pretty (Spared no expense) while this was to contrast that with a dark dirty ugly Jungle setting. |

Spielberg had promised director Joe Johnston a movie to direct after being impressed by his work. So he was basically handed JP3. Universal was firm on the release date. Johnston wasn't happy with the approved script that was already in pre-production (sets, animatronics) About 5 weeks before filming, he threw out the script and they began re-writing a new one and this entire process kept going throughout production with the script being written/re-written while filming.
So now you have a production that already spent millions creating sets for a script that was no longer being used and a script that didn't exist that also had to work in some of the larger production pieces as Universal refused to start over or push the release date. I don't recall the exact details, but the ending was supposed to include the Spinosaurus (that just disappeared after the crane scene), the raptors and the military in a big finale, but they just ran out of time and the movie ended on the beach with the military showing up. Which is also why it's the shortest movie in the series. |

I was listening to the expanded score release for Jurassic Park III, and I was reminded of the opening scene with the parasailing, where the boat goes into the fog and then we see the crew gone with just a bloody boat left remaining. To my knowledge, it was never exactly revealed what dinosaur killed those people on the boat.
Now having watched the trailer for the upcoming Rebirth movie, which contains a scene on a boat, it seems like we may get an idea of what occurred. I'm sure 99.9% don't care, but as a big fan of the series I like that possible connection. |

I was going to ask if this would ever be the case. I have zero desire to own the trash Jurassic World set. This collection is a great price, but I don't want discs sitting around that I will never watch.

I saw Jurassic Park last night. I haven't had the the 4k Jurassic pack in well over a year and I don't completely remember how this movie looked in the previous release. The colors look good, although I think it's just an ok version of Jurassic Park, it could have looked significantly better. It has this digitized look in what is suppose to be the very fine detail. Instead of seeing a finely resolved natural grain, this lower quality digital look is present. I can't think of a better term for what I see, but I had to sit a bit further back so it wouldn't be so obvious while watching the movie.
It doesn't have the fine grain detail that you see in Jaws, for example. It's a shame because this is such an iconic film, it deserves to look better as recent releases like Demolition Man and Timecop, which are not in the same league as Jurassic Park, yet they have a very natural filmic look. At least to what the director's intended. The new Jurassic Park Dolby Vision version is ok, but it didn't impress me. I will watch The Lost World tonight. |

I don't own any 4k discs because they're all trash. My collection is just a dream list of what I'd like to own if it wasn't garbage.

I just got done watching JP from the new steelbook set and it looked good to me. Sitting about 7 feet from a 77” OLED. Obviously CG shots are soft (and always will be) but I felt like close ups had a lot of detail. Theres a couple shots that looked smoothed out but overall I think it was money well spent. Next up is LW which I haven’t seen since I owned it on VHS.

I don't see any point buying these new discs, they keep re-releasing these movies with new discs every few years and seeing these 35mm screenshots, it's very obvious that there's a good chance we'll get something better again in a few years. I'll wait and see what Universal and Spielberg does for the 35th anniversary in 2028.
