Second biggest. Week ending March 18 (Casino Royale week) was 81.7:18.3.

I am seriously saddened. 3:1 just isnt impressive to me anymore. I was really hoping for a good ol 4:1, but i guess without paramount it wont happen again this year.

Also remember that the week of 3/18 not only had Casino Royale, but also came in the middle of the month-long HD DVD release hiatus. So unless you persuade HD DVD to not release anything, 3:1 is as good as it's gonna get (in the short term).

I know Balian isn't a troll, but I can see where people would think so based off these numbers.

No way in hell do "Others" account for more discs than HD-DVD "others" has sold in any week all year. You are giving them a *huge huge huge* amount of sales, and doing it while having already counted every title that would have the potential to make "Others" big.

Lost + HSM2 + others 15
I thought I was being conservative giving lost + HSM2 40k. I think this combination will move 50k or more.

Because its an educational video, they figure after the format dies it will have the best re-watch potential.

Looks like Vaughn isn't just spilling for HD-DVD friendly weeks, but now the HDUDs are pressuring him to see how bad their a$$es got whipped!

Next week is going to be the week that we see how well HDDVD can stand up to Blu-ray. If they don't win next week, I honestly don't see how they can pull ahead in the next few months. I do think they will do well by the time the numbers are reported next week.

Bourne will sell well and bolster their numbers as will HP on HD DUD.

I believe there are BOGO's going on both sides too........should be an interesting week.

On the high-definition disc front, Pirates and Superbad chalked up a No. 1 and No. 2 finish on the Blu-ray Disc chart, while BBC Video’s Planet Earth: The Complete Series returned to the top spot on the HD DVD chart.

Whatever happens for the week in terms of the overall win, I can't understand this low balling on Bourne numbers.

Consider DH4, another action flick.

We were told it did about 100K on Blu Ray the 1st week. Nothing against the movie, but it certainly wasn't the same calibre as Bourne, nor did it do the same box office.

But if DH4 was out on HD DVD, then you'd assume it would have sold about 60K or so based on the typical Blu Ray : HD DVD ratio.

I would suggest Bourne would do much much better than that (better film, better box office, dearth of good HD DVD titles, appeals to demographic, etc).

Hence 100K or more seems right for this one.

These are awesome numbers. Blu-ray sells. Period. Why Warner or any other studio could look at these numbers and say they want to support the format that pulls in 26% of sales is crazy. That's two weeks this month of numbers at or approaching 3:1 sales. Awesome news. Even if HD-DVD pulls out a win with Bourne, is it realistic to think that it will be anymore than 1 or 2% Transformers was a PG-13 title. Bourne is an R.

I think the discrepancy between what DV said (under 100,000 for POTC) and the Video Bus article (160,000 for POTC) is because the numbers he is reading are only the actual units sold that were recorded by Videoscan at points of sale. Since Videoscan only track a little over 50% of the sales (maybe 60% - can't remember) it will not show the full total. Extrapolation and estimation have to be done to get actual total sales per week.

Note that he also said Videoscan did not show Transformers, Spiderman 3 or Live Free or Die Hard as having 100,000 in their 1st weeks.

Quote from him...
lol that's even worse. Doesn't anyone find it strange how he skewed his "estimation" so that it made it seem Pirates did horrible? He leaks the real % breakdown and then tries to spin it "But no title went over 5 digits".

Did you see him try to say Paramount DID sale 190k Transfomers? Heck even Winn (the original Poster of the guessing thread) said Paramount's numbers were wrong and no one backed up their "estimates". He went on to say how Sony's 130k SM3 number was shockingly honest and probably due to the backlash of Paramount lying (and getting caught) about their numbers 2 weeks ealier. Of course Dave just keeps beating that drumb. Dave is either not very bright or an HD homer, its the only way to explain his comments this week.

Here is the thing that is being analyzed right now. While we share a commanding lead, it is so small in overall terms. Last weeks Pirates 3 says it all. 8 million copies sold, 160k of that is on blu. WHile 160k is a great number for blu, look at how insignifcant that number pails in comparison. Just a funny statistic, if you divide 8 mill by our 50 states, you get 160k per state, which is what Pirates 3 sold for the entire country on blu. If you divide 160K by 50, you get 3200 sales per state. Obviously this is very fuzzy logic, but my point is that the claim could be made that even though we've been in this format war for a year now, it really only seems like Preseason play when you look at the big picture. Still a lot of work to do!!!
