It has now been confirmed Chicago was awarded Manny. No NL teams claimed him, but the Rays and Rangers both placed claims. The White Sox were awarded him since they had the worst record. I wouldn't expect Manny to join the White Sox until next week. The trade must be completed by Tuesday, but the Dodgers may wait until after the weekend. Right now they are only 5 games out and they might want to see what happens before trading Manny. He still needs to approve the trade as well, and with Manny that's no sure thing.

I make fun of him as a yankee, and that they couldn't get the production FL got or the Twins are getting

I'm guessing since he's a technician the Yankeees either didn't use him properly or their coaches weren't capable of helping him with his slider, sinker and curveball.

Probably, I just think its a real shame for baseball as a whole to not have a go-to face that even people who didn't bother with baseball wanted to see, or wanted to follow regardless of who he played for and when someone like that goes down, or fails everyone loses not just our area.

Pavano's problems weren't the Yankees fault. He suffered some injuries, but he was also a bit of a head case. He hurt himself in a car and didn't tell the Yankees until they were about to take him off the DL. He later had Tommy Johns surgery. Pavano also didn't get along with his teammates or New Yorkers in general.

All the pressure would have been off Wang once CC came in so that probably would have amounted to even more success, he too a tragic case of injuries.

Just like Strasburg, although I think you would love it if he got even more brittle once he signs with NY. Oh and there's no sure thing he'll come back the same player once he has the Tommy John surgery, those can be career-ending.

yea they can be but i was reading an article on him and they were saying theres roughly a 90% success rate... whether he will be the same pitcher we will have to wait and see...

and i was just joking about him getting hurt... dont want to see a young guy like that get hurt... i didnt like how they were gonna put him in the all star game though.. you gotta earn that

I'd be angry if anyone took him (unless the O's got him ) but I figure they wouldn't let the golden goose go especially with what they were able to offer Tex when he was a free agent. The Lerner family has plenty of scratch and it looks like they're willing to pay winners, not like that cheap snake in the grass Angelos.

But all thats up in the air now until at least 2012 and maybe beyond, his auto has already halted on ebay and nobodies biding so hopefully I can snag one for around 100 mwahahaha (but if he never comes back I'd have taken the big hit lol)

The most recent example I can think of is from the NFL, just look at Jake Delhomme, pre-Tommy John surgery and after Tommy John surgery, two completely different players. Liriano hasn't really been the same after his, less overwhelming fastballs now, he throws a lot more variety these days.

Yeah I expect if he can even recover to see a 90-94 mph fast ball (down from 96-100+), he could still pitch but he'd have to have amazing luck to keep his current ability.

Liriano was looking god like early on and now to see him while its great he's recovering its just sad knowing the stuff he had, and I fear the same will happen with Strasburg, he may come back and be either average or above when he was at a hof level prior.

TJS is kind of like an ACL injury in that you won't really know right away (unless velocity is like 70s to 80s lol)

Jake Delhomme had a very good season (by his standards) after returning from Tommy John surgery. He had the surgery during the 2007 season and came back in 2008, playing every game and leading the team to a 12-4 record before posting arguably the worst performance in NFL playoff history (5 interceptions and a lost fumble). His horrible 2009 may have had more to do with the mental aspect from that game than Tommy John surgery. His play had also begun to go downhill before the surgery, struggling with injuries and the lack of quality receivers opposite Steve Smith.

Ya, Tommy John surgery is pretty much perfected these days. I imagine younger guys like Strasburg heal up quicker than older veterans. With Smoltz I believe it took at least 18 months for a return.

Francisco Liriano was probably the best young pitcher in baseball before he tore up his elbow and look at him now. While I think it will be better for his career in the long run that he no longer has a blistering fastball to ride all the time, I wish it hadn't happened because it will probably still shorten his career.

I just hope Strasburg won't become the next Mark Prior, or Kerry Wood who started such promising careers until injuries took over.

He already is most likely, the team had a ceiling on his pitches per game and innings per season for a reason, the kid is injury-prone. I see him out of the league in 5-6 years or a mediocre reliever.
