Taxi Driver already received an extensive 4K restoration from Sony. If you think it needs a restoration, then I don't know what to tell ya.

I wasn't saying Taxi Driver is in need of a remaster. It's not like it was a weak Blu-ray before. I was simply saying that a new transfer could help the films that are sourced from actual film. But now that you say it was a 4K master to begin with, this new version seems less necessary. I just figure that a marginally better image is still an improvement of some sort, and I already have the 2 disc DVD with special features. All I need now is the film itself in hidef, and this will now be the best version (for the image alone).

Ghostbusters was a revelation. The new 4K mastered Blu-ray was a complete remaster. It looks stunning. I've place an order for Taxi Driver (I have the previous version) and Glory. I'll do some comparing and report back. Hopefully it's not just a higher bitrate encode.

Yeah, I saw that so many people were picking up that version during the sale, but I wanted to wait and see how good this new version will be. In all honesty, half the reason I want the 'Mastered in 4K' version is because it's the newest release of the film and I've held out this long, so what the hay. I want to check out a couple of these for myself.

I'm backing Sony. Maybe this could get other studios to describe their masters. Perhaps an ever-escalating war of transparency and full disclosure will erupt between the studios.
They should not only describe resolution of the scan, but all the equipment/software used throughout their workflow and name the individuals operating the equipment/software. They should also describe when the tools were made and when the scan was done. Considering that home video isn't film, they really ought to surround the studio's opening and end credits with the names of the labs and people digitalizing the film. With this lack of transparency we currently have, we often get Blu-rays authored from Masters produced for DVD, don't we? It may not be a problem with Blu-rays of new releases as much as it's a problem with Blu-ray releases of older movies, but we would all benefit from full disclosure and complete transparency. ![]() ![]() We're getting Blu-rays sourced from 4K or higher masters from other studios w/o them 1) making a big fuss about it 2) giving us Blu-rays that drop all Bonus Features despite having 10 to 20 GBs of free space 3) charging a premium over regular Blu-rays. |

You make ZERO sense. So how is it bad that now we'll also get more Sony 4K mastered movies? And enough with those huge troll pictures please.

3) $15 dollars is a premium? Vote with your wallet and simply don't buy these. Pretty simple. |

So what do you do in the case of Ghostbusters? 4K scan and no extras, or blown out washed out garbage with extras? Which do you buy?
