9/21 - The Mephisto Waltz (1971) - A moody / atmospheric occult thriller that perfectly sets the tone for my Halloween film festival.
9/22 - Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971) - Another early '70s occult thriller to set the mood. 9/23 - The Shuttered Room (1967) - Great moody and atmospheric Gothic horror film. 9/24 - The Abominable Dr Phibes (1971) - Nuff' said! 9/25 - Diary of a Madman (1963) - An underrated gem that's perfect for a dark Autumn night. 9/26 - The Wicker Man (1973) - Perhaps one of Christopher Lee's best performances. 9/27 - N/A 9/28 - Race with the Devil (1975) - Great occult thriller from the mid-1970s that's been a favorite of mine for the last 40 years. 9/29 - The Tingler (1959) - Gimmicky but an interesting premise with the inimitable Vincent Price. 9/30 - The Creature from Black Lake (1976) - The opening sequence in the swamp is still chilling after many many viewings of this film. Not to mention the intense "showdown" at the end of the film. Perhaps the best of the Bigfoot-style films of the 1970s. 10/1 - The Devil Rides Out (1968) - I've always loved this late '60s adaptation of Wheatley's novel. Excellent mid-period Hammer occult horror film. 10/2 - Night of Dark Shadows (1971) - A perfect film for a dark rainy Autumn night. Despite the occasional soap opera-ish elements, there's a genuine macabre atmosphere inherent to the film, and a well-executed twist ending. Not to mention a superb film score by Robert Colbert that adds to the horrific proceedings. 10/3 - Sleepy Hollow (1999) - The Gothic atmosphere of this film is almost perfect. An annual favorite. 10/4 - Ghost Story (1981) - It doesn't come close to capturing the Lovecraftian terror of the Peter Straub novel, but it has a subtly creepy macabre tone to it that I've loved since I first saw the film in 1981. 10/5 - Dracula (1979) - Lush atmospheric re-telling of the classic vampire tale. At times it's a bit constrained but the Gothic atmosphere more then makes up for the film's shortcomings. 10/6 - Shock Waves (1977) - A true "creep-fest". The images of the Death Squad emerging from the ocean, and the minimalist electronic film score coupled with the tense atmosphere of the film make this movie perfect viewing this time of year. 10/7 - Burnt Offerings (1977) - The eerie dream sequence featuring the chauffeur is worth the price of admission alone. 10/8 - The House of Wax (1953) - The movie that made Vincent Price a horror film legend. I love the practical make-up effects, and the macabre story of a madman repopulating a wax museum with wax coated corpses. 10/9 - Salem's Lot (1979) - Still a creepy Vampire film after 35 years. A perennial favorite this time of year. |

![]() [Show spoiler] 10/9 - The Wolfman (2010) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() "Even a man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night may become a wolf with the wolfsbane blooms and the moon is full and bright" ...This is my second favorite Wolfman movie as the tragic saga of Larry Talbot continues. The 19th century gothic, atmospheric mood is shot beautifully along with the great special effects. Loved that they had Chief Inspector Abberline of Scotland Yard the Inspector who was at the time assigned to the Jack The Ripper case on the hunt. ![]() 10/9 - The Wolfman (1941) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My favorite Wolfman! This is stylish, classy and has the gothic, atmospheric mood I love. From the set designs to the little detail they put in each scene. Look at this powerhouse lineup of Lon Chaney, Jr. as Larry Talbot, Claude Rains as his elderly father, Evelyn Ankers as Gwen, Maria Ouspenskaya as the fortune-teller, and Bela Lugosi as her cursed son. It just does not get any better then this to watch an enjoyable film on an over-cast autumn day that will put any horror fan in the mood!!. ![]() |

I had myself a bit of a Freddy-athon last night and today. [B[October 8th and 9th, 2015[/B]
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A Nightmare On Elm Street Part 4: The Dream Master (Re-watch) Now here is a major UO for some folks. I like this as my favorite sequel. I mean the films from 2-6 anyway. I know a lot like Dream Warriors. Another UO. I like the Alice character more than Nancy from the original, 3 and 7. Plus some of the deaths in this freak me out. Mainly the cockroach one. ![]() ![]() A Nightmare On Elm Street Part 5: The Dream Child (Re-watch) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now while I like this one. I don't like it as much as part 4. But still way better than parts 2 and 6 I feel. They continue on with the Alice character. Maybe that's why I like it so much. I wish they had her and her son in part 6 like they originally wanted. But two of the deaths in this are really creepy. The Motorcycle death, and the one in the picture above. I think that part was more freakier than anything else in that scene. Some of the gore was cut out to get the R rating. Though I heard its uncut on the VHS release. ![]() Freddy Vs. Jason (Re-watch) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I don't care what anyone says about this movie. I love it, and can just sit down and watch it anytime. |

10/8 - Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989) - ![]() ![]() ![]() Not great and stretches believability, even for a Jason film. Jason's ability to teleport, how one could get a boat from Crystal Lake to New York City, the sewers being flushed with toxic waste every night. I could continue complaining since there's more to pick apart, but I'll focus on the positives. Renny is a decent final girl, the scene in Times Square is one of the best in the series, and some of the kills are pretty good. Part VIII just has a certain charm and that's why I keep going back to it. The best part though is the opening theme song; hands down the best song and title sequence in the entire series. 10/9 - Child's Play 3 (1991) - ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I feel like this film gets a bad rap. I remember not liking it growing up and it wasn't until I revisited it last year that I realized that it was kind of good. In fact, I had more fun watching this today than I did the first film a few days ago. Chucky is Chucky here, he has some great dialogue. The dialogue in general is pretty good. I don't know, I just like this sequel. 2015 So Far: [Show spoiler]

10/9/15 ![]() Hatchet - ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hatchet is obscene, it's over-the-top and it's gory, but oddly enough, it's also entertaining. While maybe not quite up there with Freddy or Jason, I do like the character of Victor Crowley. I like his backstory and his look is pretty good too. I do think that the movie tries too hard sometimes to be overly gruesome, but I found myself laughing mostly at the deaths and there actually a couple parts that do make me jump in surprise. "Oh, the horror" so far this year: [Show spoiler]

![]() The Final Girls (First Time Viewing) ![]() ![]() ![]() I thought it was fun. I know people wish it were R. But it's suppose to be poking fun of that. Plus it's not a straight up horror comedy. There Is some emotional stuff towards the end. [Show spoiler]
