I picked this up yesterday from Target for about $16 after the cartwheel and red card. Watched it last night, it was nice looking 4K material but the movie itself was absolute garbage. Felt like some made for TV daytime drama; horrible acting, sets were cheap and cheesy, I was bored 90% of the film... I'll be selling my copy on ebay or something very soon.

No, UHD 60p isn't supported on all UHD TVs, at least on older models. At least as far as UHD Blu-ray, it requires HDMI 2.0 connection.

My UHD skipped when Steve Martin was first introduced at about 39 minutes in. I think I might take that opportunity to return this instead of replacing it. |

Well, the only reason to keep is the technical aspects of the UHD.
It is pretty interesting to see how this movie presents Americas attitude towards the troops and PTSD. I actually think it does both rather accurately. It's probably the best part of the movie. People who like this movie probably like the emotions it creates rather than the story, which is simply a vehicle to create those emotions. |

I watched this yesterday and got to say it was a pretty terrible movie. For me, the way I buy movies is to enhance the movies I enjoy watching and I did not enjoy this. Luckily I didn't buy it (which reviews on here almost convinced me to do) because it was a boring lifeless movie for me.

Let's not forget that your perception of the acting is going to be very different watching it in UHD than at 24 fps, Lee mentioned this, because you see so much more, that's it.
Even the nastiest reviews have had to acknowledge that Joe Alwyn, in his first film role (he literally was still studying acting when he got the gig), as Billy is really fantastic. Garrett Hedlund is another standout. The rest of the cast is fine, they do the job. |

AFAIK there's no 24/30p 'downmix' at all, it either plays in 60p or it doesn't. In my case it plays in 4K60 8-bit 4:2:0 SDR 709, as per the bandwidth restrictions of the 10.2 Gb/s HDMI 2.0 'lite' chips that reside inside my TV.

The acting was not great and sometimes awful but the movie is successful at making you feel uncomfortable and not happy. It is not a feel-good movie. I think the way it was put together was intentional in order to elicit an emotional response. I don't think it intends to portray the American public and shallow but more how it is perceived by retuning soldiers. PTSD is a real problem. The homelessness and suicide rates among veterans is extremely high. If we have to send them to war, we should also have to take care of them when they get back. Oddly enough, as much as I don't like this movie, I am hugely conflicted on whether to keep it. |
