A couple of things interesting for me this week.

PE BD still outsells HD.

The Host is a strong showing (in the combined) for Magnolia. That should be encouraging to them.

HD DVD and Universal has a hot title for the first time in a while other than PE. Will be interesting to see how it stands next week.

Next week will be very interesting, with 300 giving us a pretty clear view of the real sales ratio between the formats.

66% is an awesome number for a week with a strong showing from Universal. It indicates that the 'equilibrium' is probably 67 or 68% - breaking the 2:1 ratio...

It actually doesn't have to outsell them but if it even comes close to their numbers, all of the other BR titles like Casino Royale, Apocalypto, etc.. should still give us a healthy lead. I think there's a good chance it might outsell them but it all depends on how many copies the B&M stores originally ordered.

I don't know what the restocking time is but if they sold out on Tuesday and don't receive another shipment the same week, it will spread the sales out over several weeks. Regardless of how many copies were available to sell, a near complete sell out is still awesome.

Looks like it could be another 76:24 week or higher.
I think you're right. I expect this week's numbers to be higher than 66:34, but next week is going to power right away.

BD TMMT is 148 (rising):365 (falling) currently on Amazon. So, it's not really close there. And BD always does much better than the Amazon numbers show.

And 300 is continuing strong at #2 for BD, but has fallen to #7 for HD DVD. And, I notice my BB got a rush re-order in for 300 on Blu-ray. That's a first for that store. So, 300 sales will actually favour Blu-ray even MORE next week. I expect it to be the dominant title in the sales for many weeks.

Gary

It looks kinda how I expected it all.

I predicted that from 7/15 on out we'll not see Blu go below 65%. HD DVD got close to last week but I don't think from here on out we'll see anything less than 2:1.

It's interesting how Casino Royale is that high on the list after almost 5 months due to new player sales. I think we're going to see 300 do the same thing so imagine all those weeks where CR was up there well after release and figure we'll now have 2 titles doing that.

Default Nielsen numbers and online purchases

I checked the search bar and I didnt find anything on this (I might be a retard but whatever. Ill post a new thread to clutter up the website):

When you buy BD from websites such as ebay, is there any way that a company can keep track of the sale? Nielsen ratings and other similar companies that monitor BD vs HDDVD have no way of figuring in the sales at all do they?

Would it hurt the war to buy BD on ebay or should we all buy movies and players from retail (amazon, BB, CC, etc)?

AFAIK - Nielsen tracks original sales. I don't know whether resellers that sell through e-bay count.

If it's a seller such as a powerseller that retails using ebay then I'm sure all sales are reported. If it's an end user who is selling a used copy, then it will not be recorded.

In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter. Buy from whoever you want.

Nope. Only retailers who report their statistics to Nielsen are counted. However those figures cover probably close to 90% of all media transactions in this country outside of Wal-Mart, who continues to refuse to provide any sales figures publically

Indeed. BTW, does anyone happend to have a list, a pdf, or something that lists most of the retailers involved in the Nielsen VideoScan numbers?

I'm about to lay the smack down on some in another forum and this info would be awesome to have. I remember seeing a pdf on AVS forums that had this information, but I'm not a member and don't want to be. Anyone care to grab it for us?

Thanks in advance.

'300' sold out early in the week so let's hope they got restocks in time for the weekend sales (4th/5th August).

If stores did not get restocks in time then, yes, we won't get the full story immediately (but it will emerge over time). I wonder if Warner deliberately under supplied the Blu-ray edition to make HD DVD sales look good? But they would never do that...would they?

I hope not... can't see why they would since they KNOW the Blu-ray makes better sales.
On the other hand they might have released the same amount to each not thinking that BD makes better sales.
I sure hope it will show how much the BD sales are exceeding those of HD-DUD.
