I, too, can sit through Crimson Tide, The Rock, and multiple other films made both before and not too long after '95. But, for some reason, the "datedness" of Bad Boys just gets me. Plus, to be honest, that film really didn't much for me.

Haha, there is a particular scene in the first Bad Boys that does feel incredibly dated. Maybe it's the music or the clothes they are wearing, but remember the moment in which they first arrive to the precinct where they work? It's unreal.

Either way, I still love the movie!

Jerry Bruckheimer in Talks to Return as Producer on BEVERLY HILLS COP 4; BAD BOYS 3 Script in Development

Though producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s recent hits are mostly massive, wide-appeal tentpole fare like the Pirates of the Caribbean series and National Treasure, he made a name for himself in the 1980s and 1990s for producing more R-rated content like Bad Boys and, to great success, Beverly Hills Cop. Though CBS passed on a pilot adaptation of Beverly Hills Cop earlier this year, Paramount is now trying to get a fourth feature film off the ground and it appears that Bruckehimer—who produced the first and second BHC films—is keen on coming back to produce the fourth film. Moreover, the report adds that Bruckheimer is helping develop a script for the long-awaited Bad Boys 3 (!!!). Hit the jump for more.

bad-boys-3-martin-lawrence-will-smithEddie Murphy has been trying to get Beverly Hills Cop 4 off the ground for quite some time, and he recently nabbed Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol scribes Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec to pen the script. Variety reports that Bruckheimer is in talks to produce the pic, which would mark a major step forward for the long-in-development feature.

More excitingly, though, Variety’s report buries this little nugget: “Bruckheimer is helping to develop the script for Bad Boys 3.” The last solid word we heard on this project was over three years ago when Martin Lawrence revealed that he had recently talked to Michael Bay and Will Smith about the project. Since then, there has been zero movement.

One has to wonder if the success of Bay’s smaller-scale Pain & Gain—which very much resembled his Bad Boys days—might have spurred him to try and get a Bad Boys 3 going again. There’s no word on who is working on the script and it very much sounds like this is early days, but it’s definitely interesting to know that wheels are in motion for the Bad Boys series to possibly return to theaters. Bay will be busy with Transformers 4 until next spring, but it’s conceivable to think that Bad Boys 3 could happen in the near future assuming a script is drawn up that is to everyone’s liking.

What's next? Lethal Weapon 5 with a couple of 60 year olds? Maybe another Dirty Harry with an 80 year old Clint?

Safe House Screenwriter David Guggenheim Targeted for Bad Boys III

It's been some time since there was last an update on the status of the potential franchise sequel Bad Boys III. That changes today as Deadline reports that Sony Pictures is looking to Safe House's David Guggenheim to provide the screenplay.

Although Jerry Bruckheimer is planning to produce Bad Boys III, the outlet notes that Bad Boys and Bad Boys II helmer Michael Bay is not currently involved. Franchise stars Martin Lawrence and Will Smith are being sought to reprise their roles as Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowery, respectively.

The first Bad Boys hit theaters in 1995 and grossed more than $140 million worldwide. The sequel, Bad Boys II followed in 2003 with a worldwide gross of nearly $275 million.

Following Safe House, Guggenheim provided the screenplay for the Nicolas Cage thriller Stolen and, among several other projects, is set to provide the screenplay for a Safe House sequel.

This is one of those times that a director change will really bother me. Honestly, Bay and this series are synonymous. He needs to drift, or my enthusiasm will go away quickly...

Agreed. I honestly can't imagine anyone but Bay directing a movie like Bad Boys. Same thing with Pain and Gain. Yeah, he turned it into a Black Comedy but how do you write a movie where a bunch of thugs actually dressed up as ninjas and kidnap people completely serious?

I think he's still in post production and after that he's gotta go all over the world to promote TF4. So who knows really.
