Yet another release I'll miss until they release the full cut - as is the case with Dances With Wolves and up until recently LOTR.

I want the uncut version not the cut release the Uk will be getting. The Uk runtime is 139 min and the French release is 151 min, that's one hell of an edit!

If you wish to have the longer Director's Cut, you should look into getting this disc:

Le Pacte des loups French Blu-ray Release

The UK disc has only the shorter Theatrical Version. Though with various issues, I also prefer the look of the French release. I hope this helps.

And one last note: The Australian disc should be identical to the UK disc, meaning it has the shorter Theatrical Version, because once the UK disc loads up there are options for UK and Australian interfaces.

Are there more than 2 different versions available?

My Single disc DVD (USA Universal version) says 2 hrs. 24 min so that would be 144 minutes.

I figured there was another cut of the film. I noticed the shots of Monica Bellucci with the white wig on in the church is not present on the US DVD version of the film. Eh, I might just go for the French release after all.

Actually, the initial info is correct - there is a Theatrical Version and Director's Cut. Both of those have Gans' input. The one edited version that was released in the UK is the Theatrical Version with some additions from the Director's Cut. I personally do not know who did it and why.

Thumbs up

Ahhhh! loved this movie.
Really want a screen shot of Monica dream sequence with her holding the dagger & blacked out eyes for a screensaver in HD. Mee-oooow!

Sorry anywho, tough choice for me. Directors cut in French, or theatrical English DTS.
someday...

So, they made us wait this long and now they've released an inferior version to what we rightly expect.
This has gone from a "day one" purchase to a "day none"
I might get the French version, since I already have the extras on the Canadian DVD.

Pro-B I think the review is wrong on this point :

There are three official cuts of BOTW on DVD not two :

If the UK Blu-ray is the same cut as the original UK DVD (the one with the red cover), then it's not the french theatrical. It's an alternate cut made a bit after the movie opened by editor Sebastien Prangere, upon demand by the producers, who wanted a shorter, alternate cut for foreign sales. The UK distributor viewed both cuts and got along with this one.

Technically, the theatrical cut is the original french TC -- and the french TC as far as I know, only have been released on DVD in France on the initial, rental DVD, and was never available for sale (correct me if I'm wrong, it's been 10 years !). It exists as a US DVD thought.

Here are the cuts and their DVD availability :

- original french Theatrical (only seen on initial release, and on rental 2001 DVD, US standalone DVD)
- director's cut (FR/US/CAN DVD releases and French Blu-ray)
- UK cut (UK DVD release and Blu-ray)

The UK cut is a cross between the Theatrical and the DC -- in a way it's what the original TC would have been, if the director / editor had the time to perfect it.

How do I know this ? Maybe because the productions offices of the film were one stair above my magazine office back then and that UK cut came about after hours and hours of discussions on how to alternate cut the film with the editor

Interstering! And to sum it all up, the only way to really see the movie is the french DC import
