If this ever gets a UK or US BLU I really want Full Frame and WS options for the film.

Kill me if you want but I love the Full Frame 4:3

I don't think that many people will argue with that! The widescreen version crops some fundamental shots (particularly bad is the stake through the throat), but I'll take the Japanese version for now, especially as it looks like the rights are currently too expensive for distributors to bite.

I think all labels should take note of this...no more "Limited Edition Exclusive Content." Call it what it is! Enclosure Benefits!

Well, that's all I have to add to this. Enjoy your day!

I'm sticking with the superb Arrow limited edition set until Rubinstein sees sense.

Obviously they're durable, but do DVDs last that long....?

So did George Romero and I wouldn't mind having both formats.

It is frustrating this is being held up due to rights costs. If Arrow had released "Between Night and Dawn" consisting of Season of the Witch, The Crazies and Martin (with Vanilla possibly as a special feature?) it would have been a much stronger set and also a far better seller. Perhaps Arrow considered releasing it at a premium price and decided against it.

I don't understand the logic. Rubinstein must be making less money off the title now than he ever has done before.

As it's a 4:3 image on the DVD it should always be non-anamorphic anyway as there are no black bars wasting data (i.e. Letterbox).

How does the 4:3 version on the Japanese Blu-ray compare to the 2010 Arrow 4:3 version? I know both are SD.

Never seen this, and I am super interested.

Thanks!

Ditto Kevin Francis asking a ludicrous amount for the Tyburn archive. The films are as good as lost on the legal market now and no money has been made for decades now except for pirates!

There were vague rumours a UK label had managed to licence some or all, but that has gone very quiet.

Maybe non-anamorphic was the wrong phrasing. I should have said that it's not enhanced for 16:9 TVs. When you play the AB DVD the 4:3 image gets stretched out to fill the screen. You then have to go into the TV picture settings to fix it.

Despite my reservations, I've ordered the BD from Amazon Japan. It was dispatched yesterday morning (no slacking for Christmas ), and it arrived in Leipzig Germany today - estimated delivery Friday the 28th.

Martin is near the top of my most wanted Blus but until Rubenstein sees sense I'll put up with its absence and not spend money on botched cropped expensive and poorly authored blu rays

The 4:3 on the Japanese BD looks absolutely awful. I don’t remember the Arrow 4:3 looking particularly good, either. Strangely the 16:9 on the Arrow seemed much better quality than their 16:9.

The 16;9 on this blu ray looks better than any previous DVD edition. As I had only about 4 or 5 BD purchases planned for winter, it was a no-brainer for me to pick this up from Amazon Japan, even if it’s priced at a premium (I don’t remember the exact cost, and I don’t miss the money). If I have the option of watching a SD DVD or an HD BD, I’m going to go high definition. Give me grain or give me death. The packaging is also lovely, and I don’t regret it for a minute.

But I do understand the bitterness that some people have about it, as well as the need to hammer home how inferior this BD is and how glad they are that they’re not buying it.

Yeah the 16:9 'Flag' has probably not been set correctly on that particular disc.

It looks exactly like the old Anchor Bay DVD to me:

There's nothing wrong with the authoring of the disc. It has a generous 29gb for the main feature and a very high bitrate as well. The cropping is unfortunate, but until something better comes along this release is perfectly fine for now. I liken it to owning a fairly decent theatrical print, and it blows away the previous DVDs.

Here's a couple of pics of my copy that I received this morning. It was 48 hour turnaround over Christmas Day and Boxing Day (I ordered it late in the evening on Christmas eve). Santa's little elves must have been working their tiny nads off!

I've always been curious to know if Rubinstein (or anyone for that matter) is sitting on Romero's original extended director cut of Martin (it's one of my holy grails to some day see). I hope it appears some day!

Could you tell me which edition did you buy? I saw there are two editions on Amazon Japan, I think I would order the cheaper one but I would like to know if it would come with the sturdy outer box.

I bought this one: https://www.amazon.co.jp/Martin-Blu-...=AN1VRQENFRJN5

I can't say for sure, but I would imagine that the cheaper version is just an Amaray case without the hard slipcase and extra swag.
