When you have a franchise that repeats the same plot three times, one of them is going to be hated. And the third one is always the easiest target.

I completely agree with Terminator 3. I think it's a great movie and very fitting in its franchise.

But it doesn't. Here are the three stories:

1. Fate is inescapable.
2. Man creates his own destiny.
3. Man can change events, but he still cannot change his fate.
(Salvation: Robots have feelings too.)

If you think about it, as John Connor could not even be born without Judgment Day, it's really T2 (and the awful Salvation) that's out of place in the series. T3 just reconciles the major plot hole left by its predecessor (while introducing a few gaping ones of its own).

I think the hate stems from two sources:
1. People didn't get it.
2. James Cameron didn't direct.

yeah he was pretty creepy looking and you didn't know where he was lurking at most of the time during the progression of the First Mummy Movie..
it was pretty intense a few times..
especially when he was like trying to get that guys eyes and he wore that creepy mask..

The Two Mummy Movies were awesome

I disagree. To me, the hate comes from the corny dialogue that wasn't present in the first two, the underwhelming soundtrack, and it seemed to lack the epicness of the first two. James Cameron not directing it helps stir the hate pot, but it isn't a deal breaker.

I'm not sure there was much to 'get' from Terminator 3. It presents itself pretty clearly at face value. You want to watch a movie people don't get, I suggest Barton Fink or Inland Empire. Terminator 3 is about as simple as they come as far as 'getting' it.

Just my thoughts....

I prefer Salvation because it retained the epic quality of the first two, and was a half decent story too.

Cyclops and Professor X are instrumental to the series, and the entire Phoenix saga has a celestial epic-ness to it. None of that was conveyed in the movie, and they erased Cyclops and Professor X like it was nothing.
I basically learned to read from X-Men comics. I've been reading them since I was in the first grade (1987-1988). So, I totally understand your attachment to the Chris Claremont stories. He was great.
You have to admit, though, that he took the X-Men into space way too much. It's fine for other superheroes, but the X-Men were designed to deal with strictly earthbound problems. Sure, saving the world can improve human/mutant relations, but a lot of the stuff that took them into space had nothing to do with earth at all.
Personally, I enjoyed the idea of the Phoenix Force coming from withing Jean, rather than from some cosmic egg that holds a force/being designed to protect a crystal that holds the universe together.

And even Claremont knew that the team was more interesting when they didn't have Cyclops and the Professor. That's why he took the Prof to Antarctica for over a year and made Cyclops quit the team.
Scott Summers is generally uninteresting, with the exception of when Grant Morrison and Joss Whedon wrote the book, and the Professor has long since served his purpose.

I liked X-Men 3, because it pulled the Phoenix story down to earth (literally) and it killed characters that should have died 10 years after the 1970's second genesis.
