so I washed it yesterday only to find out that there's also a bunch of tree sap mainly on the hood..and of course I didn't have the right cleaning materials..so I guess it'll have to hold on until friday..

my car probly hates me lol
A good car soap SHOULD probably do the trick. If not, you might want to clay the entire car.
Once you clay the car, but a good coat of wax for protection.

What kind of car you have?

Agreed!

It's a lot of work but it's worth it.

Hell yeah it's a lot of work. I try to clay my car at least twice a year, even though it's garaged most of the day.

haha I knew you would reply..I was actually thinking of PM'ing you for tips on detailing, but I stopped over at autozone checked out some car care products, saw some armor all tar/bug/tree sap cleaner..says its safe..
I went to a DIY car wash that's why I had no proper cleaning material, but I'll hand wash my car this friday, I have the Turtle Wax Ice car soap.

oh yeah, I have an '06 silverstone s2000
..I know i've been bad..I used to be better at taking care of my car, used to wash and wax/polish (using Turtle Wax Ice car polish) my car every two weeks

Default S2000 Detail back in July 4th 2007

Some work I did for my friend. I posted this thread on autopia.org

Quote:
Hey guys. I'm bored at work, so now I'm going to post pics of a little detail I did for my buddy over the 4th. I started around 10am and we finished around 2pm. I didn't want to spend all day detailing since it was the 4th. I'm a "novice" detailer when it comes to using the PC, AND I've never detailed a black car. This was the 2nd car I've ever detailed other than my car. I've used my PC on special occasions, but only had it since FEB of this year. Well, I was able to remove 60-80% of the defects on his car. He had lots and lots of rock chips, so I avoided that area a lot more. I was a little worried about haze, but the only time it hazed was when I used Z-AIO with a white pad. I did some Z-6 wipe downs afterwards. Anyway, hope you enjoyed.

Process:
Z-7 wash
Clay
Z-7 wash
Dry
PC with yellow pad and Menz IP to whole car
Z-AIO with white pad
Z-5pro enabled with ZFX
Z-6 for any hazing issues.

I used my new Brinkmann Xenon light to capture all the swirls and water spots.

These pics were located on his hood

Pic after polishing with yellow and IP

Now for the afters..........

HOOD SHOT!!

MaCruz you said you did this 3years ago
would this still be the process and exact materials you'd recommend now?

It's hard work. It's easier to work on if you maintained the cars paint. My friend didn't do that so it took us a while. Glad the S2000 is a small car.

I see you edited your post.

If you want to go the Zaino route do so. Lots of work ahead of you. If you want something simple. I'd go.

1. Wash car / Don't dry yet
2. Clay
3. Wash car again
4. Dry
5. Remove any scratches or swirls using a compound or polish
6. Apply 1 coat of wax.
7. Apply a 2nd coat if desired

Let me know if you have any questions. I've done this a hundred times. This is just something simple. I can go into details with towels, microfiber, drying towels, and other products too.

I just got home from Discount Tire for balance and rotation, and it took them less than 10 mins to get the job done. I made sure they didn't scratch my wheels.
This is by far the fastest time EVER to get this maintenance done for my tires.

Indeed, it takes Goodyear an Hour to do mine... I think it is because my rims confuse them...

I bought the recharge kit for my K&N so if the weather holds, I will report back how much of a pain the process was.
It *should* be easy.
Soak in the spray on both sides, rinse off, let dry, spray on oil.

I'm on a week vacation on the 17th. I'm going to detail my entire car from inside, out. I'll post pictures.

I'm also going to replace my cabin filter, and air filter as well.
