Hmm, ok. Not sure how much this would tip the negotiations. Wal-mart has a reputation of being pri-T shrewd...

Agreed and recommended stance to all.

I, too, have been looking out for kjack. I hope he shows up again soon.

WILL NEVER HAPPEN.. They have signed a deal for 18 months, its in the contract and they are smiling. They got paid, uhhm Alot. Universal I dont know, but I bet hd group have this with universal over the coofie table
Yes but the contract doesn't state that they cannot release Spielberg movies on Blu-ray and if Minority Report and any Indiana Jones movies come out, or Saving Private Ryan, I'm buying them quicktime.

They have ways of getting Blu-ray revenue without releasing any non-Spielberg titles.

well since the day they started to carry sony hdtvs ive thought that something with blu was in the deal. sony gives wm hdtv, walmart gives sony bd. both win big time. sony can be shrewd too. if beatboy is telling us the truth hear, why not with WB? he probably was. so sony and the bda hear rumors about wb going hd dvd. bda calls up wm and says hears the deal, we helped you, now its time for you to live up to your part. if walmart was shrewed sony probably threatened to take away the tvs. with this news, no way any studio is going hd dvd.

Maybe this is why Penton ducked out for the day. Maybe he didn't want to talk about it.

Yeah, agreed, we outta chill now and see what plays out. I'm feelin' a little served after Michael Bay got the smackdown by the Paramount legal team and retracted his comments.

Still, the $199 specials are very necessary to get on the shelves somewhere in response to Toshiba's creative ( !) strategy of devaluation. I'm sure there are plenty of retailers are interested in those, if only to door crash their stores over the holiday season. I don't see this as a war ender per se, but it will open Blu-ray to a whole new level of adoption. Damn, there are still VHS DVD combo players on shelves fetching more than 200 bones...

itll be hiroshima. itll be a huge blast that takes out a lot and the after effects will end the war. paramounts and universals best reasoning was player prices. if bd undercuts hd dvd, what happens to that train of thought. if there is a 200 blu-ray player, 150 million could look like chump change on the hd market xmas 08, theyll demand more, or break contract and pay up.

quite possibly, I just frankly don't have the insight to really know. I do know Wal-mart typically does business on their own terms. But you could very well be right in that they needed Sony's support...

they usually do. but this is a special case, because walmart is in no position to making threats to sony like they usually do to get their way with things like tupperware, shampoo, clothing, etc. sony litterly had nothing to lose as there tvs wern't already a part of the walmart lineup (and it was suffering becuase of it). walmart could say well pull ps3, but sony would have surely fired back with, you pull ps3 and we pull all the ps2s and all the ps2 games and that is the biggest console out there now by all other systems combined x3 and ps2 probably has great margins for retailers. and one last thing, its very likely that sony sold walmart hdtvs at a loss in order for a favor down the road. both come out way ahead in this and there is no love for hd dvd.

Wow if those rumors are true ($199 Blu ray players at Walmart). it will be sooo HUGE. I never drink, but I see myself preparing some "Cuba Libres" (Rum and Coke).

If a 200 Bd player were available at Walmart, you can bet other stores would be demanding them too. I would be happy for the fact that my Walmart would start carrying movies.

I e-mailed walmart a few weeks ago about how our New store that is the best I have seen has been lacking in the HD department. No players maybe two movies while having a large selection of movies. The response I got was "when the wally world was created the customer are considered the boss. We take all customer request and channel them to where they need to go." If people keep contacting walmart about blu-ray it could help them to start stocking up on blu-ray titles. Just a note.

I certainly like that common sense attitude.

I think warner is the key. They probably have the best movies overall and swaying them would be the key to ending this war. Paramount has some good titles but none are on their schedule to release yet. Spielberg is at the least neutral. Warner has to go our way or we risk losing altogether.
Most mothers are happy with their standard dvd disney titles.

I don't think we're at risk of losing...

however, losing to us is letting HD DVD stay alive...

winning for them is staying afloat with BD..

pretty soon we'll see some of the HD fanboys come out and say "yeah, I wanted to see spider-man so I purchased a crappy BD player"
