Please forgive my compulsive a-holeness, but I must set the record straight. Godzilla, in this movie, is not a dinosaur. He is a mutated lizard. Also, many Godzilla movies feature him in a city. His usual target is Tokyo, not Gilligan's Island! On a side note, if you haven't seen it yet, watch Godzilla: Final Wars. You can see Godzilla fight himself!

OK, I have to take it back. We all know that the American Godzilla is not the Real Godzilla. Maybe a 2nd cousin at best!! Thank you. That is all.

Well looks like it will be officially out on November 3 2009

I hope there's still time to do a tribute to the Taco Bell dog, perhaps a retrospective titled "Herrree Leezard, Leezard: Tribute to an icon". I'd like to hear Matthew Broderick and Puff Daddy's memories of the Legend, or perhaps Nicholas Meyer comfirming that those were his real chest muscles.

:P

IMO, Roland Emmerich + Dean Devlin = crap. Most of their films contain plot holes you could drive a bus through.

One has to look no further than the Emmerich/Devlin film Independance Day, when Jeff Goldblum's character defeats the Alien invaders by uploading a virus to the mothership's computer system. I must have missed the part when they explained that the aliens were running Mac OSX, MS Windows, or maybe Linux OS

Ok, didn't mean to derail the thread....back to Godzilla.

The film had some ok spfx, but not much else going for it. Just my 2 cents

Thats child's play compared to the immense gravitational effects the mass of the mother ship would have being so close to the earth. But I don't give a rat's ass, it was a great entertaining movie.

No PCM, only DTS HD MA 5.1 . The AQ is mind blowing but the PQ is very very disappointing. Lacks the 3 D pop and the image is very soft and hazy particularly for the ill lit scenes

I agree. E&D make big, loud movies that are intended to be big, loud movies. They're meant to be pure entertainment, and I think they succeed at that for the most part. If you're the type to nitpick movies to death, stay far, far away from an E&D movie. (Though I do want to point out that the virus thing in ID4 was made possible by analyzing the alien craft they had in their possession. People tend to overlook that in their desire to trash the film. Cheesy? Yes. But it works within the story as it is.)

In that spirit, I think Godzilla was an entertaining movie. Yes, it was incredibly disappointing in the sense that it completely failed at being a proper Godzilla film. The idea of them making a big budget Godzilla movie was exciting, and instead we got a giant iguana. But if you ignore that and take it for what it is (and ignore the title...), it works. I'll be picking it up.
