It still looks pretty good to be honest. I can't complain.

Well have received and viewed my copies of this great film along with Rear Window, and am delighted with both transfers. Hitch's direction in both films is masterful even if some abuse took place with Hedren for The Birds (alledgedly). That film still stands up today and in parts still shocks, two fantastic purchases

Pretty well documented...
Let's not make excuses for that kind of attitude.

i read the review and the PQ problems that come with this title,so my big question here is...is the UK release identical to the US one,or is it going to be a new transfer?

I really can't answer your question comparing the two releases but I was also concerned about the PQ after reading the review but I went ahead and ordered the UK BD anyway. It is a big improvement over the US DVD. There are some scenes such as Hedren closeups where the image is soft and maybe some other instances where the quality could be criticized but I am extremely pleased with the transfer. It actually makes me wonder if the UK has a better source for the transfer to Blu-ray.

I doubt this is a new transfer, it'd be more widely reported and Universal would advertise it as such. As it stands they tend to release and re-release identical discs across different territories. I'm sure this'll be the same one that was in the US and UK sets.

Deleted Scene, Original Ending, The Birds: Hitchcock’s Monster Movie – New! (Blu-ray Exclusive), All About The Birds, Storyboards, Tippi Hedren’s Screen Test, Hitchcock-Truffaut Interview Excerpts, The Birds Is Coming (Universal International Newsreel), Suspense Story: National Press Club Hears Hitchcock (Universal International Newsreel), Production Photographs, 100 Years of Universal: Restoring the Classics, 100 Years of Universal: The Lot, Theatrical Trailer, BD Live, Pocket Blu (Blu-ray Exclusive).

It's likely that this version will have the same features and the same remastered transfer.
Can someone confirm if the special features are the same as on the previous release?

Thanks

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be the same exact content from the disc found in the Masterpiece collection.

I guess since it's a 50th Anniversary Limited Edition, there's a chance it might be something new, except for the art card inside. I'm a special features junkie and would really like to know if I need to upgrade my copy to this one.

Well, since the US hasn't even announced a single release of this and this is a special limited edition, I went ahead and ordered it. I don't care for the cover very much, I much prefer the cover for the US version in the Hitchcock Collection, but well...since they ain't releasing it as a single...then I guess this one will have to do.

I sure hope the disk is the same as the US disk, so I wont miss out on any special features. Now, if this one has MORE, then I will be a little happier.

This and Psycho have always been my favorite Hitchcock films.

Just bought a copy of this from Amazon UK, so it's in stock there for a short while at least. Zavvi is currently out of stock.

Me too. Any discrepancies with the transfer (though the Hedren close-ups were intentionally shot that way and not an uncommon practice back then) are inherent to the source material and have always been there.

These stand alone titles are all identical to those contained in the Masterpiece collection and feature the same extras. We're getting them all here in Australia too, with Vertigo being the latest, and usually any releases from the big companies like Universal are identical to their UK counterparts.

I think the UK Masterpiece BD of Vertigo dropped the mono track. Need to know if it's on the single release (out yesterday).
