This one is definitely worth it it. Very strong 3D throughout. I really enjoyed it and I know nothing about Doctor Who. Just don’t expect feature film with big budget rather made for TV movie.

Quite the bump, but did the BBC ever issue this one at the correct speed here in Europe (the 2d presentation I mean(? I remember reading a post saying they did a reprint, but can't find it (or I'm simply overlooking things) and am curious now that this episode has been wiped from Netflix here at the correct speed.
If it is, how can I recognize it? Or do I have to contact the BBC?

I think the answer is sort of. There is a 50i presentation of the 2D disc, but I don't think it's available as a standalone. You might be able to talk BBC into sending you the replacement disc, but from what I read that seems to be only part of the 50th Anniversary Box. The UK 50th is also OOP

Buying the AUS was the easiest/cheapest solution for a while since the re-packaged version had the corrected disc as part of the package, but even getting it shipped has become a flail from JBHiFi as they seem to have this on permanent AUS only. I think Sanity may still be shipping it though

The 3D paintings alone make the purchase worthwhile for an enthusiast.

I unfortunately don't have a television that supports 3D, wish I did, but oh well. Used to watch 3D films on my HTC Evo 3D, which was quite nice, but that phone is long past working.

I emailed the BBC, figured why not. Seems they're still sending out the corrected 50i disc. I'm planning on getting the AU release of the 50th anniversary. But if I can't find a decent dealz at least I know I can still get the correct one anyway by just getting the standalone release and ask for a replacement.

I can't say that I expected the BBC would've shipped it this fast, I haven't even received the boxset yet (though I have ordered it, but it's still somewhere in shipping).

Sorry to revive an old thread, but do any of you know if there is any difference between the US and UK sets at all?

I saw a post about possible stereo audio issues on the UK version but I do not know if that was confirmed, and I think both are region free.

Can anyone confirm if both 2d and 3d are region free and identical please

Thank you so much!

If it says [Region Free] in a thread title, that means that all releases are confirmed as region free.

For a comparison see https://www.dvdcompare.net/compariso....php?fid=25791

In the United States there was only two separate Blu-ray 3D releases for Doctor Who. Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor and Doctor Who: Dark Water/Death in Heaven. There most likely will not be anymore Blu-ray 3D releases for Doctor Who.

There was one Doctor Who released on the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format and there is a possibility that more Doctor Who film based movies and TV series might get 4K Blu-ray releases in the future.

This is a fun extended 3D episode of Doctor Who with some great 3D effects. It ties nicely into the established cannon, answering one of the biggest questions from the show. The audio isn't bad for a TV movie either. I'm no Whovian, but this fun departure brought me back to a time when Doctor Who was relevant. A time when they respected the lore back to the OG Doctor William Hartnell. A time before they decided to blow it up and retcon it into irrelevance. A sad ending to a great franchise. but at least we have this.

I'm going to try and pick up the series 8 finale in 3D, which means of course I'm now going to have to pick up series 8 lol. But since Missy is one of my two favorite Dr Who characters of all time (River Song is the other one) I don't mind picking up the series

That one is a conversion and not an impressive one either.

That's a shame but I've already purchased it and season 8 and I might pick up a few more seasons down the line. Thanks for the heads up.

A weak conversion is still better than 2D!

Can I follow this if I haven't seen, and will not watch, any other Doctor Who?

I saw and own the blu ray 3D of Dr. Who, Something about Robots invading, which was interesting, but with mostly mild, weak 3D. Thankfully I only paid $10 but it was a mild conversion I remember. Didn't see this one yet.

Doctor Who 3D Dark Water/Death in Heaven 3D: Mild 3D mostly.

I think so yes, it's pretty much a standalone story. But if you've much of the Smith and Capaldi incarnations then it also serves as backstory. It's partly why I don't mind buying series 8 which I think references the main plot line here as well.
