I go back and forth on the Kill Bills.
Sometimes I really like em...and sometimes they seem very shallow and derivative. Inglorious Basterds is pretty good, but there's nothing especially unique about it imo. Django Unchained just...well...I don't see how anyone could think that's on the same level of storytelling/writing as Pulp Fiction. ...but I respect every man's opinion. |

has been in my all-time Top 5 Favorite Film list ever since I first saw it on opening day way back when. I remember going to see it in Manhattan and the thrill of experiencing this cultural phenomenon in the company of a lively audience. I'll will never forget the scene where Christopher Walken (as Captain Koons), explains to young Butch the saga of "the watch". It was absolutely perfect ... I'm talking textbook audience manipulation of the best and most entertaining kind. You see, at the start of the dialogue heavy scene (yeah, I know ...wow, really? A dialogue heavy scene in a Tarantino film?) everyone was respectfully quiet, almost somber, but then, as the scene (and the outrageous story) began to play out, people began to burst out into uncontrolled fits of laughter. This, of course, culminated with contagious uproarious laughter throughout the theater once the whole 'ass-watch' story scene was played out. I love Quentin for many reasons, but one in particular are the words he gifts us with in all of his films ...man ...you can't buy dialogue like that!
Speaking of which, I personally lost it when Travolta said wearily "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go home and have a heart attack." as well as when Harvey Keitel cautioned Vince and Jules "Well, let's not start sucking each other's d!ck$ quite yet." ![]() |
