Awesome news ! Been waiting to hear this for a while now. I wouldn't mind if 3 didn't get a Blu Ray release but i would like to get a BD on 4 for sure.

It will be mine. Another pillar of horror comes to Blu-Ray.

I remember when I first got the very first Pioneer laserdisc player, they gave you a few disks to choose for free. The pickings were slim, so I just did eenie meanie miney moe and ended up with Phantasm. It was dated looking even back then. The hair styles of the kids made me laugh out loud, not to mention their abysmal acting. There were all these scenes shot in a mausoleum with marble walls that were quite clearly made of plywood and house paint. The music was over the top and cheesy... but then the big scary guy came on and the chrome ball and I was hooked.

Don Coscarelli is the king of cheese. He knows how to make cheap and exploitive fun. My favorite scene in a Don Coscarelli film is in Beastmaster where there is a flashback to the Beastmaster's birth... He was born from a cow! But the punch line is that in long shots, the cow clearly isn't female. What is that baby coming out of?!

I always thought New Order's Elegia sounded like the Phantasm theme, but I haven't closely compared them so I could be way off.

Can't wait for this, Hopefully there will be a boxed set. If not I'm still jazzed about the first one coming out.

Since Paramount is releasing this I guess the Blu-ray will be accompanied by 30 minutes of forced trailers and several anti-piracy disclaimers before the main menu pops up. Then we'll be treated to a parade of production company logos before the film begins. Ah, the pleasures of corporate America At least we'll probably get a UV code for the film since it will be a major studio release, which I will promptly sell off.

If you search for Phantasm on the Anchor Bay site none of the films show up anymore and a quick check on Amazon shows that all 3 are no discontinued and selling at a premium price. This isn't that surprising considering Anchor Bay has let a lot of their horror movie rights lapse and be transferred to other studios recently.

This can mean 1 of 2 things:

1. The studio that will be releasing Phantasm V has obtained the distribution rights to 1,3 & 4 as well and will be re-releasing the title on home video and hopefully Blu-Ray.

2. Shout Factory/Scream Factory has obtained the rights to the remaining Phantasm films and new versions are on the way.

Either way I would expect that whoever now owns the rights will be announcing new versions of the films in time to capitalize on the release of Phantasm V this Fall.

The band Entombed used the theme in their song "Left Hand Path", you can skip to 3:55 to get to it,
