I'm excited. Love the concept, and I love the old-growth look.

Actually, he pretty much is a plant. From Sci-Fi Japan:

"Godzilla is the largest life form ever recorded and possesses unique body tissue integrated with metal-like muscle fibers, which can generate a strong electromagnetic charge, to support his massive weight. Thanks, deleted it. I have to say, fan art being passed around as official production/marketing art has been a big problem with this movie. It all started with that fan drawing of a translucent Godzilla, which spread all over the internet as "the anime Godzilla design".

Guess it's easier for that to happen when it's animation, whether it's by mistake or someone intentionally trying to trick people.

Godzilla Dons Hello Kitty Bow in Collaboration with Sanrio for Upcoming Anime Film

Quote:
Godzilla is shockingly cute in a new collaboration with Sanrio announced to celebrate the upcoming anime film Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (Godzilla: Kaijū Wakusei), which is coming to theaters in Japan on November 17. The collaboration features illustrations of the city-destroying kaiju posing alongside the Sanrio characters Hello Kitty, My Melody, Pom Pom Purin, and Little Twin Stars.

The collaboration artwork will be on display from September 1 to 8 in the B1 floor atrium of the Gate City Osaki West Tower in Shinagawa, Tokyo, alongside a 2-meter statue of the version of Godzilla that will be appearing in Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters. Later this fall, various collaboration goods are planned to go on sale, including T-shirts, key chains, can badges, and smartphone cases.

Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters is planned to be the first entry in a trilogy of anime films. The film will open in Japan on November 17, and then it will stream globally on the Netflix service this year.

Kobun Shizuno (Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare and other Detective Conan movies, Fist of the North Star: The Legend of Kenshir, Fist of the North Star: The Legend of Toki) and Hiroyuki Seshita (Ajin, Knights of Sidonia) are directing the film at Polygon Pictures. Gen Urobuchi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero, Psycho-Pass) of Nitroplus is credited with the story concept and screenplay.

Previous Godzilla collaborations with Sanrio have included an appearance by Hello Kitty in the Monster Planet of Godzilla ride at the themepark Sanrio Puroland, a line of keychains, and more. In the past, Sanrio has also done collaborations with Sailor Moon, Yuri!!! on Ice, and many other series.
Well, this was somewhat unexpected.

Takayuki Hattori returns!

Quote:
The official Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters website announced the film's composer today. Series veteran Takayuki Hattori will be scoring the animated feature. For Godzilla fans, Hattori is best known for his work on Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994) and Godzilla 2000 (1999).

In addition to the Godzilla series, Hattori also has a great deal of experience with anime, including the Slayers series and the theatrical OVA series, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin. The composer should feel right at home scoring a Godzilla anime.

The Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters soundtrack will be released November 15th--Two days before the film's Japanese theatrical release on November 17th.
His score for Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla is one of my favorites in the series, so I have no problem with this.

Music video for the film's theme song "White Out", performed by XAI:

Some background on the singer (and the song) via Crunchyroll:

Quote:
The official website for Godzilla: Kaiju Wakusei/Monster Planet, Polygon Pictures' upcoming three-part anime feature film project inspired by Toho's long-running Godzilla franchise, today confirmed that 19-year-old rookie singer XAI performs its theme song "WHITE OUT." She is the winner of the "Artist" category in the 8th Toho Cinderella Audition held in November 2016.

"WHITE OUT" is written by Sachiko Aoyama (NEGOTO vocalist/keyboardist) and composed/arranged/produced by Masayuki Nanako (BOOM BOOM SATELLITES bassist). It will be included in the four-song "anime edition" CD and 10-song "artist edition" CD, both to be released on November 15, two days before the release of the film's first part in Japan.

Traditionally, most of the winners of the Toho Cinderella Audition appeared in Toho's Godzilla films:

1st winner (1984): Yasuko Sawaguchi (The Return of Godzilla, Godzilla vs. Biollante)
2nd winner (1987): Emi Odaka (Godzilla vs. Biollante to Godzilla vs. Destoroyah)
3rd winner (1991): Keiko Imamura (Godzilla vs Mothra to Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla)
5th winner (2000): Masami Nagasawa (Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S., Godzilla: Final Wars)

Default Godzilla: The Mobile City's Decisive Battle (Anime Sequel) May 2018

Quote:
Tomorrow the first anime Godzilla film, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, will hit Japanese theaters. But just as we hit the release date's eleventh hour Toho Animation and Polygon have given us a tease of the sequel.

The second film of the Godzilla anime trilogy has the (very) rough translation, Godzilla: The Mobile City's Decisive Battle. We're waiting on Toho's official English title for the upcoming sequel. The film will be released in Japanese theaters May, 2018.

"What is the city that was left on Earth 20,000 years after all urban structures should have been devastated? There is a scene that cuts out the moment that humanity confronted 'something' in the darkness where rubble was stacked. What is MechaGodzilla? A decisive weapon created by mankind to stop Godzilla?"

A review is up at Kotaku.

Oh, and we know Godzilla's height now. Remember they said this version would be the biggest yet? Well, he is, and not by a small margin! Apparently, he's over
[Show spoiler]300 meters (around 984 feet) tall, which makes him nearly three times the size of Shin, the previous record holder.
Absolutely gigantic.
