I'll send you the time when I get a chance to view it again.
I also saw one quick frame break in Mad Max:Fury Road, but I think someone already mentioned it a page or two ago.

There's at least two that have been mentioned. They add extra black bars briefly for some shoots though, so it isn't so much it breaks out, rather the rest of image pulls back.

Mad Max "frame breaks" are on the list:
Two quick "frame breaking effects" at 0:03:56 & 0:27:12

And they are in quotation marks because they are 'fake' like you said (by adding extra black bars).

Part of me thinks there might be more. The Fury Road ones are so quick they're easy to miss.

So, have you noticed any? After repeated viewings I haven't.

Can you please tell me the time when this happens?

I think there's a screenshot in the Ninjago thread...

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...3&postcount=91

Basically, the guy's holding large weapon on an angle and it's going outside the frame on the top and bottom.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't see you were asking for a timestamp. My copy is still shipping.

I've lent out my 3D disc but I checked on a friend's DVD - it's the "ultimate ultimate weapon" scene about an hour and 13 minutes in (it may be a little later on the blu-ray as I think the DVD was PAL).

The frame briefly widens five times as each character thrusts out a weapon over it.

I added "Missed opportunities" to give details about movies with aspect ratio and/or frame breaking effects in theatres, but which are not present on 3D blu-ray.

I had heard that theatrically Pirates: Dead Men Tell No Tales had frame breaking. Is this not the case on Blu at all? Been debating on buying this but will have to import it, and that would put me over the top for wanting to go through the hassle.

Thank you for this list. I am fairly new to blurays in general and espically 3D. I recently finished my theater and noticed in guardians of the galaxy 1 and 2 how often the aspect ratio changes not including the frame breaking (which I highly enjoyed). I have masking panels and I am wondering how many other 3D movies I missed part of the movie due to the masking panels being up. You would think they would have to put that on the box like changing aspect ratio. I have about 50 3D movies so I think for watching the rest I'll just keep the masking panels off. It makes me wonder how many other movies not in 3D change their aspect ratio.

Anyhow awesome list and thanks for posting this.

In IMAX 3D it had an expanded aspect ratio for the entire movie, but no frame breaking.

The Transformer movies do mention the changing ratios in the specs.
My favorite frame break was in GOTG vol 2, when the ship came towards the camera and took over the whole screen. Had to rewind that one.

That's a very nice effect! My favourite is the last frame break (you can get the time code from my list), it just suits the scene so perfectly!

Updated the list and made it more readable by adding spoilers for the extra info.

Yes, Thor 3D only. Black Panther is unknown for now.

Checked and confirmed the Amphibious 3D and The LEGO Ninjago Movie "frame breaking" effects. Also added The Avengers: Infinity War to the coming-list.
