Arrow did two editions for a bunch of arse like PIECES, so I'm sure a bonafide classic like THE THING will get proper options.

If they did a two-disc edition at the usual price, then a deluxe edition at twice the price with all the bits 'n' bobs (soundtracks, posters, er, jigsaws, etc) collectors crave, I'd be fine with that.

Oh, I've been waiting for a good time to watch this film for the first time, looks like I've found it.

My main complaints are: 1/no likeable characters 2/no women characters 3/the lead is such a miserable sod, & I just didn't care about any of 'em, I think I was sticking up for the alien in the end.

Now the 1951 version, rubbish special effects, but great film.

Nice! I got the original UK Universal Blu-ray release of The Thing off eBay not too long ago, but being that this movie is one of my all time faves I'll likely pick up Arrow's release to replace it once its available knowing that it will likely be an allround better package.

Not saying that the Arrow version wouldn't be a better package overall, but is there anything fundamentally wrong with the UK Universal release?

Apart from being worse than an 11 year old HD-DVD?

It's a very old transfer that (in the US anyway) has DNR and other processing quirks and an unnatural warm push. The Shout transfer is a revelation compared, so even if Arrow just uses that you should be in for a treat. If they do their own new scan it should be even better.

Yeah, I'll be hanging onto my HD DVD of it. Likewise all the various DVDs and LDs I've bought of it.

Super excited about this announcement!

Cover art should be Drew Struzan's textless art as seen on the Mondo posters or the Japanese theatrical poster. I don't know what Arrow could add over the US edition so a nice book would be welcome.

The BFI book was slightly disappointing but Jez Conolly's book is worth picking up

I hope it comes with a US Outpost 31 play set or, at the very least, a dig your own UFO out of the ice activity centre!

You know you can do it, Arrow!

Thing related question.

Can anyone else remember the spider-head prop that used to be in the old Psychotronic shop in London (Hanway Street, behind the Virgin Mega Store on Oxford Street)?

Okay, thanks. Another film that I have to replace once the Arrow release is out (previous was Videodrome).

Yup. I didn't like the fact that they moved from Camden Lock to be honest. Used to love chatting with Dan, Lino and the fellas.
