the scene in Prophecy is so funny because the kid pops like an exploding pillow.

While I like the movie. It is ripe for a remake/satire that still has the heavy handed message, but has fun with the material.
[Show spoiler] Since soulless greedy corporations and over-zealous environmentalists could be made light of as nature destroys them both.

I picture the opening credits featuring "We Care A Lot" by Faith No More to set the mood, and a somber ending with "What Are We Gonna Do?" by Dramarama over the end credits. I picture the ending dealing with the possibly mutant human baby being born that is not fully explored in Prophecy and the dilemma of the mother once giving birth to the monster. "That's not my baby!" she screams and then maternal instincts kick in, pause, fade to black.

I'd title it "It's A Monster Movie!".

Thank you. Yes The Great Kevin Peter Hall was the Bear. Well I call it inside out bear. I'm a huge fan of Kevin. He's also the Monster in Monster in The Closet. This will be day one. Hoping for a Collector's Edition. Absolute favorite. Love everything about it. That Bear thing was scary AF watching when I was little

Do we know if it's getting a collectors edition already?

Fun fact the script or story was a lot more gruesome. The Dad and kids scene was brutal on paper.
[Show spoiler]It's similar to the film, the girl awakens to the monster bear literally eating her parents while they slept. Biting off their heads. She awoke to the sound of crushing bone. Nasty.

Also huge spoiler
[Show spoiler] the vary end where we see there's another Monster bear. In the script it was a park ranger up on one of those stations high on stilts who was drinking and happens to see the second monster bear walking threw the woods at the end. This one was supposed to be all fleshy and even bigger. After he see's it he looks at the bottle of booze and blames it on that. So it goes unreported lol. Perfect set up for a sequel.

AMC Theaters' subscription service. For $25 / month, you can see up to three movies a week, including premium formats like Imax and Dolby. So, if you were to max it out and see the full 12 movies / month alotted, you'd be hitting that ~$2.00 / ticket price point you were reminiscing about. You also get discounts / upgrades on concessions. If you live near an AMC, it's an amazing value.

No thanks. One of the great things about '70s movies like Prophecy is the seriousness with which they treat the subject matter. The parable of the story, its theme, is lost if you make it a comedy. And if you think it's already a comedy just because it has a giant mutant bear in it, that's on you.

Though, your ending sounds like a direct lead-in to an It's Alive remake. It's the '70s Monster Movie Remake Cinematic Universe!

A Shout! retrospective featurette on his career would be most welcome. He's best-known for Predator and Harry and the Hendersons, but he had a lot of roles we could learn more about.

P.S. Proofread your sig.

Apparently Frankenheimer decided to cut some extra gore out. He felt it was gratuitous. I find that a little interesting considering
[Show spoiler]how graphic the final kill is in The Challenge,
which from around the same time period.

I think a straight-forward remake taken seriously would be wonderful in the hands of a capable director. Without Frankenheimer this movie would not have been at all memorable. I think, hear me out, Nicolas Winding Refn would do a great job if he sticks to making it primarily a monster movie.

I'd don't like seeing animals suffer either, but it adds a lot of grit and grimness to these '70s movies. It's something that's rarely touched on nowadays. While I wouldn't argue that Jaws is the superior film, Orca is hardly the cheesy rip-off its reputation would suggest. I think it's very good.
Oh, I agree. These '70s films manage to be psychologically disturbing in a way that feels authentic and makes you feel sick to your stomach, and that's not something you see as much in the previous or following decades. There's an unrelenting grimness and sense of realism that genre films of this period seemed to capture more effectively.

It's a big reason the 1970s are my favorite decade in cinema history.

I don't think the movie is a comedy, but it does have unintentional comedy in it as a result of the hammer you over the head with the message seriousness that tells the audience how to feel vs it happening genuinely. But that's part of it's charm in my opinion.
[Show spoiler]It's similar to Christian movies(like Pure Flix stuff) that over preach to the audience and beat the message into you vs allowing the viewers to come to their own conclusions. If only it were that simple in reality. But sometimes these simple black and white stories are a nice escape from reality if only real life worked that way.

And with the way the world is going today, with idiots not believing in global warming despite the evidence("Nothing to see here") and idiots trying to do good, but wind up causing more harm to nature like in the link below. I think it's ripe for a modern take on the story-line, and make it really disturbing, depressing/bleak and darkly amusing in an ironic way.

http://savetheeaglesinternational.or...y-thought.html

Oh and Prophecy does have some serious scares in it though. The opening sequence is very atmospheric, numerous bits throughout pack a punch, and the last half of the film has some terrifying suspenseful and well done set pieces.

But like I said, there is some unintentional humor in it mostly from the main actors William Shatner/Charlton Heston type of acting. He gives it his all, but some of his dialogue is too on the nose preachy as the screenwriter was trying to hammer home the message.

I can't wait for the release though! Since I do like the movie and can take it mostly seriously, but there are bits that just amuse me for reasons stated previously.

Oh, there was an It's Alive remake in the early/mid 2000's that was direct to video. I haven't seen it, but it was probably nothing special.

I haven't seen the 'It's Alive' remake either, but from what I gather they up'ed the gore and went with an R-rating. The original in PG form was nightmare inducing.
