It's a recurring problem with Bond movies casting actors who have shown they can do menace - Charles Gray (The Devil Rides Out), Krabbe (No Mercy), Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men), Jonathan Pryce (Something Wicked This Way Comes), Walken (almost everything) - and then having them camp it up or play for laughs. It was a real surprise that Waltz resisted the trend.

Two other proven baddies who deliver the goods:
Davi didn't camp it up either, though with the iguana around to potentially upstage him, that thought might have crossed his mind. I actually like Davi a lot in LTK, and also (assuming NSNA even counts) Brandauer, who seems both credibly grounded and OTT. The meta aspect, where it seems like he knows stuff only the audience knows (like turning to look up at Bond while Bond is i/p of escaping), kinda works against the reality, but does so in a charming way IMO.

Julianne Moore's acting in Magnolia, especially that cringeworthy pharmacy scene. I don't know, just didn't work for me. Everyone else was great though.

War of the Worlds 2005- The implausibly hallmark ending with his son already being at his mom's, even though he ran off towards what looked like the seventh level of hell. I can take Indy's fridge escape more than that scene.

The effects on the plane really are superb, as using scale models still give a weight and mass which isn't quite there in CGI.

The only problem I have is that the flight is running on "petrol fumes", but when it crashes, the plane explodes in a massive ball of fire, of a size which would only have been caused if carrying a large amount of fuel. But a plane just crumpling in a heap with some minor fire from the wings isn't cinematic enough, and would have possibly left survivors.

I really like Annabelle Creation, but this here scene is just so poorly set up. It's like they had an idea for a cool scene but had no idea how to fit it into the movie. "Let's have this scared little girl go demonic doll fishing alone in the dark." "Sure, but WHY????" "Nevermind why, it'll look cool"

There's an alien that's already killed one crew member on the loose in the ship, so you go off in your own into that dark storage bay to look for the cat...

As far as they knew, it was still small. They had absolutely no reason to suspect it would grow into an 8-foot killing machine in such a short span.

That's actually a common fallacy...it is the fumes that are explosive far more than actual jet fuel or gasoline.

Even putting the "yellowface" issue aside, it's a terrible, obnoxious character who drags the movie to a halt every time he appears. Even if he were played by an actual Japanese actor, it would have been terrible as written and performed. Shame, as the rest of the film is sophisticated and charming.

Regardless, it had already killed one person and they'd made a point of forming two teams with improvised weapons to find it for safety. And then just send him on his own to get the cat.

Yeah, it killed Kane by ripping its way out of him. There was no logical reason to expect it to be a significant physical threat to a fully grown human in a fair fight if it was still the size it had been when they first saw it. Sure, they still should have stuck together, but people don't always behave in a logical manner, especially when they're little more than interstellar truck drivers who haven't been trained to deal with such a scenario.

The way Toht's glasses jump halfway down his face when it's melting off in Raiders Of The Lost Ark.

It's an otherwise marvelous effect, but that always gives away the trickery.
