The Invasion (2007)

So, The Invasion is the 3rd remake, not the 3rd time it's been done.

Correct.

But with Hamlet and others you are talking about versions of a play, not remakes of a movie. Same goes for A Christmas Carol.

What is the record for something that started as a movie?

This is true for Hamlet, but the OP's wording was "based on the same story" in which case both Hamlet and A Christmas Carol would qualify. (A Christmas Carol was originally a short novel, not a play.)

"What is the record for something that started as a movie?" ~ Good question.

I think "The Time Machine" would have a lot of remakes or would have spawned a few offspring!

Three Musketeers
Sherlock Holmes
Pink Panther
The above must have quite a number of remakes, especially if we look globally, not just US releases.

I disagree.

Death Wish has been made {with different titles but the EXACT same premise} over 1001314134131414151421321312 times since the original came out.

I am pretty certain that Cinderella may be one of the most remade movies ever.

Agreed. Better to have no follow up sequel than to have the sc-fi channel touch it.

Something I want to ask all of you regarding The Thing. I few months ago, late at night I caught this movie on a station I cannot remember, but there was Narration going on mostly during the beginning of the film. The narrator would explain who each character was and add a little back ground info on him. It was bizzare. I had never seen this or heard of a version like this before. Anyone else catch that?
